andrew_brown
Hi there,I've just finished a roll of Ilford XP2 that I uprated to 800. I've previously asked the lab to uprate at the development stage, but I was wondering if another option is to ask them to develop as normal and to correct at the processing stage, and if so what the difference between the two options would be in terms of the finished prints. Anyone know ?Thanks,Andy
m0002a
Ilford recommends normal C-41 film development for exposure indexes of 50-800.
pascal_miele
Push processing of C-41 is not a good idea: poor in speed, hard in contrast. In a commercial lab, the printing is corrected by the automatic exposure of the printig machine. It's not a perfect system but it's not so bad ! Pascal. dougmiles
Hi-- Unless your subject lighting and contrast were quite flat, I'd suggest normal film development. I'd push-process only to boost negative contrast and highlight density for flat subjects, such as recording prehistoric petroglyphs for one example. As Lex has earlier suggested, you can squeeze a good bit of detail out of shadows even at ISO 800. But push development will only boost contrast that could blow out highlights.
