ingino
Hi all. Okay, this is a request for information. I'd like to gather up some good recommendations on labs that will process b&w in New York City. I'm nowhere near getting started, but I'm doing my research. I'm in Manhattan and won't mind sending film to a lab in Queens or something, but I would like to find a reasonably priced lab for someone starting out (I'll have a low volume of work to print at first), but who will work with me to get the results I want. I'll mostly be doing headshots (portraits) for actors or corporate officers. I wouldn't be able to have a darkroom and do it myself. Until I get a clientele, I'm going to offer to take shots of my friends for free - so my outlay shouldn't be drastically high. The only one I have any experience with is ModernAge, but I'm sure they're pricey. TIA for your help! Diane
david_goldfarb
ModernAge is reasonably priced for the consistent professional work they do, and for the excellent customer service (i.e., no attitudes which you'll find at some of the other big pro labs), and they do a large volume of B&W headshot work, so it fits exactly what you are doing. Another great lab that specializes in headshots is Kenneth Taranto. They do really outstanding repros and often put on exhibitions of headshot photographers to promote the work of the people who regularly use their lab and to show potential clients the work that is out there. divie
Hi Diane, I was doing costum work for a very decent price in NYC. And I will do it again :) In the moment I am in Taiwan to get my asian experience. A friend of mine was using a prof lab in NYC but can't remember the name. I can find out if you would like that. Are you a full time photographer? How is the business at the moment? I am planning to be back in July/August. Take care, DiVie
