The Future of Nikon Wednesday

During the few days photo.net was down due to an expired SSL certificate, we had a chance to review things. Believe it or not, Matt Laur has been starting Nikon Wednesday since early 2010, and he is a bit tired after an almost 14-year run, following Jose Angel who started this entire idea. I fully agree that Matt deserves a break, as he is busy with his consulting work. Once again I would like to thank Matt for a his long-time contribution to this forum and hope to still see him around. I know Jose is around once in a while too and would like to thank him as well.

Recently I have a bit more time on my hands so that potentially I can start Nikon Wednesday, but if someone else is interested, please let us know. I always think that starting weekly threads should be automatic, but we have no mechanism to do so.

Incidentally we still have a three-image (3) limit for each member per week. Occasionally some people post a bit more. Do people think we should stay with three? I know on the Nature Forum, members prefer just one image per weekly thread, but there are two weekly threads in total on that forum. Potentially we can expand to 4 or 5 images, but I certainly wouldn't want one person to dominate a thread.

Thanks again Matt.

BTW, my GMail has record of this post I made on 23 December, 2009:

Subject: No Way, Jose -- Nikon Forum Wednesday Threads
After over a year of starting the tradition and initiating Wednesday image
threads every week, Jose Angel recently informed me that he would like to step
down from doing that in early 2010. However, he will start the last Wednesday
thread #53 for 2009 on December 30.

I would like to once again thank Jose for his tireless effort for over a year.
Hopefully he can continue to participate in this forum, including the Wednesday
threads. We are fortunate that Matt Laur has agreed to initiate those threads
starting from the first Wednesday in 2010, which is January 6. Since Jose lives
in Europe while Matt is in North America, the timing when those threads will
start may shift a bit, but we understand that we very much are an international
forum with members posting from New Zealand, Australia, Japan thru Africa,
Europe and all the way to Hawaii. We'll try to make sure that the Wednesday
threads are available at a convenient time, but you get almost an entire week
to contribute. There is no rush.

Please join me thanking both Jose and Matt. Believe me, it is not easy to
perform like clockwork and start a thread on time week after week. I can only
wish we had more members like them making positive contributions to this forum
so that everybody can benefit.

And happy holidays to everybody.

Thank you Matt for all your support. Appreciate your long run for us.

Shun : Thank you. Three image limit is perfect, if we are not limited by server storage space.

Its really good to see /study and learn from all photos you all post. This helps me to look at my photo archive top post something or may be shoot something new. In fact, I was editing some picture for this Wednesday :).

I suppose pretty much by default, I am going to be starting Nikon Wednesday. I am planning to travel once in a while. If I have no internet access, I may need to ask someone else, maybe Matt, to start Nikon Wednesday. However, if anyone is interested, you can still let me know.

And it looks like we are staying with the three-image limit. Occasionally I see four images from someone. Usually I handle that with a private message. Over the 15-year run of Nikon Wednesday, I think I can count on one hand the number of times images need to be deleted. (For example, I recall once someone posted an images of some porn star ....)

Thanks again, Matt Laur.
