Gup
Bad luck - I feel for you. Happened to me - lost books, equipment, loads of rare vinyl (which the firemen said probably made the fire worse - such sympathy), family memorabilia, etc but no one injured, and no pets harmed, so all in all could have been a lot worse. To specify, I lost it all when my motorhome caught fire enroute to Canada's east coast. We were 6 hours from home beginning a 5 week drive when the motor caught fire. It was fully engulfed within minutes and nothing was salvaged. I stood with my wife and dog and watched - in shorts and T-shirts - as all our vacation clothing and equipment went up before our eyes. We weren't even wearing shoes. It was life-changing. All our ID, electronics, cash, camping equipment. It took us decades to acquire much of it, some impossible to replace, as anyone ever experiencing a fire already knows. And yes, I agree, nobody was hurt and the dog was saved, so no real harm, but I've yet to even replace one camera body. I bought a used LG Q6 phone shortly afterward for $100 and that's basically it. The photo results are dismal at best. It has been very difficult to live without taking pictures, especially in the first few weeks/months afterward but now somewhat liberating. I had already basically retired from paid work, having turned down the last 5 or 6 wedding requests and the phone has stopped ringing altogether, now. The insurance paid off generously but I can't seem to justify replacing my pro gear now that I don't really need it to generate a paycheck and anything less will likely disappoint me in the long run. A quandary! I think I may post a request for some opinions in the days coming regarding the different options now available.
Ricochetrider
Oh yuk. I had a total loss house fire. I know how it feels. Granted, mine was a long time ago. But it leaves a large hole in a person to lose a lifetime's worth of stuff. Thankfully this was your home away from home and not your home. Best luck getting sorted with a new camera outfit.

William Michael
"Back in my day" mods and admins got free premium membership...I still have an email from Josh Root tucked back from '08 or so saying that everyone who was then a moderator was set through 2025 or something like that. I guess that went away with the switch to Pnet 2.0 though, I was informed that this protocol did change. . . . and I doubt many active folks here even remember Josh. . . I do remember Josh Root. Sandy, to whom do you report member issues? I'd appreciate that person's name and email address. If you mean "an issue about another Member", then I think it best to address that in a PM, to a Moderator. If you mean "issues I as a Member am having with the site", then the Site Help Forum is the place, though you could also PM a Moderator if you deem the matter as 'delicate' or 'private'. As you would be aware, and as it has been mentioned several times in the Site Help Forum, Moderator Traits (and "Administrator Traits") are not sufficient to address some of the issues. Sandy Vongries
Well, still here, Moderator tools intact. We'll see how it goes. BTW, Josh is still out there and looking in now and then, I've had a few Email conversations with him. Original intent of this thread, so far unnecessary, so I'll lock it down. Thanks for the input.
