Leslie Reid
You are invited to upload one or more of your landscape photos and, if you’d like, to accompany your image with some commentary: challenges you faced in making the image? your intent for the image? settings? post-processing decisions? why you did what you did? the place and time? or an aspect you’d like feedback on? And please feel free to ask questions of others who have posted images or to join the discussion. If you don’t feel like using words, that’s OK too—unaccompanied images (or unaccompanied words, for that matter) are also very much welcomed. As for the technicalities, the usual forum guidelines apply: files < 1 MB; image size <1000 px maximum dimension. Well, the power came back on late yesterday and was supposed to be shut off again today, but we got a reprieve for at least a few days--camera batteries are now fully recharged. Meanwhile, here’s the other half of the compositional indecision from last week—this version pays a bit more attention to the rocks and their reflections. I’m still not sure which I prefer, and I'd be very interested in your opinions.

Glenn McCreery
Wheat farm and remnants from a previous generation of wheat farmers. I really like the repeated V shapes of the rock wall and their reflections in Leslie's image this week, so I prefer it to last week's.

Leslie, if this were my image, I'd do slight dodging to bring out the midtones already there. No need to create ones that don't exist already.

mikehegarty01
Leslie I like the composition of this week better. To me the placement of the subject is better and the leading lines on the rocks and in the water work beater. Lots to see there! --Sally

Leslie Reid
Many thanks for the feedback and suggestions! Here's a revised version that incorporates Michael's and Sally's very useful suggestions: I'd do slight dodging to bring out the midtones already there and from Sally: "I'd like to see more detail in the reflections" I upped the exposure, toned down the resulting highlights (I'd originally exposed on the plant), reduced contrast a bit, increased clarity in the water, warmed it slightly, and raised the black point. I think the suggested changes did a good job of emphasizing the rocks and reflections by taking the spotlight off the plant. I may eventually dial back the changes a bit, but probably not by much.

Hi, Leslie, I like your changes and agree that they could be dialed back a tad. Decisions, decisions!

Although I agree with Tony's observation about interpretation, I like the revised version more. It reveals the pattern within the rock formation more explicitly.
