Ken Ratcliffe
New feature on the critique forum "Applause" which gives "claps" to the image. Any explanation and help on how to use this as intended please.
John Peri
Clicking that button will give you the clap. I was always told not if you wash your hands after
G-P
testing it here to see how its received - one of the developers saw the idea/concept on medium.com as a means to show writer appreciation for their article - same idea here
Gerald Cafferty
The idea/concept may be better received with some promotion and explanation. I see that there is no limit on the amount of clicks/claps that can be applied to an image, strangely you can even applaud your own. Is it intended that they should remain anonymous, will they show up on the timeline.
G-P
It is only being tested now, we are not currently using the data to rank photos all we wanted to do was see how it would received by the community before we make next steps. It should say "beta" on it but not really enough space so we just went with it for now. We do have record of who provides applause, so I agree, if you are clapping for yourself....well, then I suppose you are "that guy or girl" that claps for himself/herself and of course we'd depreciate that accordingly.
G-P
Is it intended that they should remain anonymous, will they show up on the timeline. - at this point it will not show up on your timeline, however if we decide this is something that is well received, it will be integrated into the timeline and it will not be anonymous, so you can tell who is giving you applause. G-P
In short, we think there might be something across favorite, admire, applause and comments made ("upvote" of a comment coming soon) - that could translate to a distributed rating system - which if you recall - is something we have gotten away from largely because it was being gamed. Ideally looking to create something that can't be easily gamed and/or can allow us to easily identify those trying to game the system and treat their input accordingly. One thing if for sure - nothing will be perfect but we can try to make strides in the right direction.
Ken Ratcliffe
Thank you admin for some explanation and clarification. The "beta" status now helps us to understand it suddenly appearing on screen.
