Another camera portrait, this time a nice old No.1A Pocket Kodak that turned up yesterday. The seller was selling it "For parts or repairs; seems to have the lens missing", but I was pretty sure there was a f/6.3 lens hiding away in there. Anyway, for $15 it seemed worth grabbing, and it's really in rather fine condition. Can anyone tell me how the 1 through 4 aperture numbers relate to regular f/stops? The fold-out foot that doubles as a latch to hold the camera closed seems to be a little unusual for this model.

Hello everyone. Within days of the US entering into the UN declared Korean War, my naval reservist father was recalled to active duty. On his 3rd day at "work" he jumped upon an Argus C-3, aka "The Brick" and a Weston 853 light meter at the PX17653074_DSCF6694r-horz-vert.thumb.jpg.14b699a1828989345683562d50234b36.jpg . When he passed in 1984, the Argus & Weston, both working, were handed to a young neighbor.

Last week while prowling about a few pawn shops in Honolulu, I came upon an almost pristine 853, which checked out against my Gossen Pilot being carried in my Fed-2 case. A ten'r & it was mine! Now the Isolette 2 case is right on the 1952 retro look. Two rolls later the 853 has proven it's worth. Iso2, Weston 853, UFX100, OA & V600 scan. Aloha, Bill

Great find Bill, they're a very handsome meter, and that's a very funky gate. It's hard to believe that Wednesday is the solstice, and the sun will start moving us back to summer. I'll miss our winter shadows; here's how the light looks at two in the afternoon. Canon AL-1 : Tamron Adaptall II SP 35-80mm CF f/2.8 (Model 01A) : Kentmere 100 : PMK Pyro.

A few shots from today from the Mission in San Juan Bautista Calif which is just a few miles down the road. HP5 pushed to 800 and a red filter. It was like 100 degrees out and I was only there because my son wanted to take some photos with his Leica M6. The good news is there is a pretty nice burger place with a shaded patio waiting for us. We talked camera's and about Ben Horne the you tube guy that shoots large format 8x10. . It was fun but just to hot for me.

One more shot from the roll. The light out there was harsh and the wrong time of the day. Almost like the highlights and shadows were reversed from what I would like but I do not have anything new to post this week. HP5 at 800. The Motel is in San Juan Bautista but it's a pay to walk around attraction and all the rooms are decorated with period appropriate decor. I should go in there with a tripod and shoot some of the rooms. There are some other buildings with the same thing going on. It may be a state park type attraction. Not sure about that actually. I love HP5 with my 35mm camera's but in 120 format it is just not working for me. I am very happy with Arista 400 and I think I will try some Tri-X the next time I order film.. I am going to try some Ektar pretty soon and have my son develop it for me.

A little more from the Vivitar 24mm f2 (which is the same lens as a Kiron 24mm f2). The f2 versions of the 28 and 24mm lens I believe were made in the mid 1980's and offered reasonable performance in a fast wide angle. Naturally a fast Nikkor, Canon FD, Rokkor, Takumar, or Zuiko, etc. would outperform them at maximum aperture, but at a much higher cost. My first one, a Kiron 24, was bought as NOS from Abe's of Maine for a mere 60 USD. I eventually gave this to my oldest son, who is a Minolta enthusiast. A during the past year I found the Vivitar version in good condition at a good price so I pounced on it.
