randy_cooprider1
I read in an online blog that even with image stabilization, high shutter speeds improve resolution. I set my A100 on shutter preferred @ 1/500 and took a picture of Garrison Chapel. I also snapped #2 with the 1/500 setting. Both are sharp and could be enlarged to almost pixelation with edges fairly clear. Then as evening approached, the middle tones started getting too dark because the kit lens has f5.6 max aperture. Of course a tripod would give the same resolution (with stabilizer off) improvement as the higher speed shutter. Many famous photographers (Ansel Adams, Alfred Eisenstadt) used tripods successfully so why do I have so much trouble getting my tripod out and using it? Anyway post up to three (tripod or not) pictures with the longest side no more than 700 pixels.

james_f6
Every time I use a tripod I keep forgetting to turn image stabilisation off, I never knew early on having it on could cause image blur. Apparently you are suppose to have it off for Flash, I wonder why Sony just does not deactivate it when used with Flash.

david_smith110
Randy, No.3 is really nice.

Howard, that last one is a very nice photo. Some noise in the sky but that is to be expected with the NEX 7 on 6400iso. Well done.

NEX 7
Minolta MD 45/2, straight out of the camera

the scream

randy_cooprider1
James, I think the use of flash plus stabilization is more complicated than the tripod setting. When you are not using the tripod and you want to pick up the ambient light such as in a night portrait or second curtain synch or fill flash in daylight, the stabilization should be on. Howard, the city shots are very interesting. Are things in Cheapside cheap? (:o) David, I looked like that once after a dentist visit. Patrick, her face says she is anticipating a bad outcome! howardstanbury
Randy, David - thanks!

Cheapside is, as I suspect you guessed, not cheap. Apparently the name comes from a medieval word for marketplace. I like the railroad shot too, Randy.

Good to see the MD 45 f/2 getting good use - that's a very effective shot, David.

I was in Iowa one winter, once. A swimming pool is the last place I'd think of going ...
