soren_nyquist
Hello everybody, I have been borrowing a Nikon F3HP from a family friend, I have had it for the last 7 months and used it frequently for the first 2 very successfully. After about 2 months I put it down for a while, just a few days ago I got it out again and was messing with it, however the main shutter button wouldn't do anything. The illuminator in the viewfinder doesn't light up anymore and the meter no longer functions. The manual override switch on the from still fires. I have messed with the 'T' shutter speed because I read another forum post from someone with a similar problem, this caused the camera to function for a few shots before it ceased to function again. Id love to hear your suggestions, thanks, I hope I put this in the right place.
jon_shumpert2
Is it completely non functional? I have an F3 and it works without batteries when set to T. Have you tried turning the shutter speed dial to another setting and using the mechanical release? If the mechanical release still works I think you may just need new batteries. Good luck. I hope you get it working again. My F3 is my favorite camera.
Two23
I have an F3T. It doesn't seem to eat batteries, but what you describe does sound like a dead battery to me.

Kent in SD
Matthew Currie
It's been a while since I used my F3 but my recollection is that it's designed to go completely dead when the batteries go below a preset voltage at which they work reliably, so it's not uncommon for it to work 100 percent one day and not at all the next. I've had the occasional bum battery, too, so it's always a good thing to check that first even if the batteries are reasonably new.

Brian1664876441
Clean the battery contacts, try a new battery. Years ago I bought an "INOP" Nikon F3HP from KEH. It "OP"d after cleaning the contacts.
rossb
Clean the contacts and add a new battery and give it a go. If it works then great and if it does not then off to the fix it shop.
peter_simpson1
Uhhh...check the power switch around the shutter release, make sure the red dot is showing?

I once spent about 5 minutes, panicked, because I had forgotten I had turned it off.
[there, I've admitted it]
bebu_lamar
The F3 was designed to shut off and not working at below 2.4V.
