This week I'm going B&W from El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico

And a little bit of color from Viejo San Juan. A mural of famous Puerto Rican writers with the light blue Puerto Rican independence flag. My little sister called the whole thing "very Tumblr" (whatever the hell that means). I'm thinking that's a modern word for hipster.

#1 Sentimental with Past & Present

<a href=" Sentimental To Past src="https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7150/26942975936_72f361c60f_b.jpg" alt="" width="1024" height="683" />

I saw a wall of big photos capturing the Smith Corona typewriter and that really got a kick of my memory admiring how fast my brother typed with the old mechanical typewriter. I treasure the greatness from past and present but mindset always stay in the past. Hence the antique liking soul in me with b&w film photos.

Apology of non-Pentax picture posting. I thought I shot it with K-5 and Tamron 17-35 f/2.8-4.0 and I did shoot with the gear but the above was shot on a different time with A7 and Tokina 20-35. I had actually shot better and memorable pictures from K-5 and Tamron. It was a mood thing and sometimes my photos don't come out with a good vision and it has the least effect with the gear but more on the lighting and my vision and state of mind. The above was in trash bin state in my LR catalog until I turn B&W in Nil correction likely with Kodak Tri-x 400.

#2 Pink Thistle

<a href=" Pink Thistle src="https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7267/26727144490_af3c6103ef_b.jpg" alt="" width="1024" height="685" />
K10D and Tamron LD Di 70-300mm

This was an ancient photo of mine shot in 2008 with K10D. I re-edit with Color Efex Pro and I think I try either Velvia or Provia. Now that I stare at it for minutes, I wish I remember the film that I choose on emulation. And I miss the funky and fringy zoom with Tamron as I occasionally love the on-the-mood type of shots on close up. Now that I don't have any zoom as I sold my DA 55-300 and DA 60-250 preparing myself to get the DA 55-300 with WR, I am free to revisit my long zoom need.

#3 Colors In Darkness

<a href=" Darkness Can't Hide Colors src="https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7656/26908080201_c6fd7f7b5a_b.jpg" alt="" width="1024" height="683" />

I saw quite a few discussions on bokeh rings that is oval or the preferred type of circular. I went to my archive of photos and I do see circular and ovals (cats eyes) in others. The above was shot with Voiglander 40mm f/1.4, likely wide open -- I saw both with only circular in the middle ones while the rest seems like oval shape. I love my FA 43mm f/1.9 but the bokeh rings have edged shapes like a hexagon and I prefer the FA 77 as they come out more rounded and smooth. I still remember the cats eye bokeh rings from my past Cosina 50mm f/1.2. They are all different and I actually don't mind the cats eyes bokeh rings as long as they are smooth and not distracting.

Hin,

The rework adds a bit of magic to your work very nice.
Harry-really like the mural. Very nice.
Justin-nice play of shadow and light, nice flow with that palm.

My images are, surprise, surprise, all nature. I am saving a special image for Nature for tomorrow of a threatened and very beautiful snake. But I'll share some of our migrants for today.

Nice stuff here this week!
I shot this pano one evening last week when the clouds were looking very interesting before sunset. I went to a favorite spot and by the time the sun went down the clouds had disappeared! I was glad I had the 67 300/4 along to get a shot that didn't depend on good clouds. The good light was very helpful!
645D & 67 300/4 x6, stitched in LR6. Best viewed large.
.
Yesterday I left the house at 4:30am and picked up my buddy to go for what may be our last ski of the season in an area called American Basin that holds spring snow nicely and the 4x4 access road (Cinnamon Pass) gets cleared about this time of year.
I turn 45 in a few days and I always like doing this trip with friends around my birthday; it's been a tradition the past few years.
After a couple of hours of getting there we were climbing by 6:45, headed for that couloir on the looker's left in the ridge.
KS-2 & 18-135 (my ski kit)
<a title="IMGP1932-Edit" href=" IMGP1932-Edit data-flickr-embed="true">
.
We made it up, then back down before touring over to another aspect in the basin. Snow in there was variable and a little tricky to ski at times but I always enjoy these adventures even if conditions aren't perfect.
<a title="IMGP2024-Edit" href=" IMGP2024-Edit data-flickr-embed="true">
.
Bonus pic: Here's my friend at the top of our next descent which had gotten more sun and skied a bit easier than the previous descent. We had all kinds of weather and a WR setup seemed to be the right tool. KS-2 is nice for this kind of thing and the 18-135 is small and light enough to not slow me down significantly. If the KS-1 was WR I might have gone for that instead of a KS-2 but I've been making good use of the WR feature so I think I made the right choice.
Good day out!
