reversal using bw dev and c41

To experiment, I tried making a reversal out of CN film, 800

speed. I initially developed it at 32.C in FD10. The result was

film that looked exactly like unfixed BW film, which is perfect.

But after carrying out the regular C41 process on it, it's blank.

Why? I fogged it it for long enough.

Oh, I used CD after the fogging! Didn't skip that

<p>The bleach in C41 only shares the name in common and is completely different from BW reversal bleach. The C41 bleach is designed to remove *ALL* the silver.</p>

Thats what I wanted though: remove all silver leaving behind

the dyes. I thought; develop as BW to bring out the silver

image negative without the dyes. Fog and colour develop to

bring out the remaining dyes that can be affected, with the

complement colour of the original complement giving a

positive

<p>The dyes only get activated with CD4, the active ingredient in C41 developer. In this case, don't think of a BW developer as a BW developer; it is a silver developer.</p>

<p>What you can do is develop the film completely as if were a BW film. This would still give you the orange base and as long as you intend to scan, will be fine. Just repeat what you have done and use regular fix instead of the C41 stuff. The same goes for reversal. Just park the C41 chems stuff on the shelf.</p>
