Tim_Lookingbill
A couple a days ago pulled the trigger on Amazon mp3 album of Capitol Records 2010 remaster of Les Baxter's "Ritual Of The Savage", the birth of Exotica lounge music. A 1952 recording using micing technique and technology that was ahead of its time at least from what I can hear. YouTube versions recorded off vinyl does not do it justice.

Play the CDr in the next room while editing images and it sounds like a live performance. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003NL7WOK/ref=oh_aui_d_detailpage_o00_?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Start out with "Jungle River Boat" with decent headphones. It's a trip especially for music recorded in 1952. I'm just discovering this music for the first time.

Tim_Lookingbill

Prefer Esquivel to Baxter.

I bought this CD of Esquivel from listening to this YouTube of "Snow Fall"... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4SlbKF-t10

The Baxter album I posted on is the only one I like because of the melodies which are quite cinematic and different from Esquivel. But yeah, Esquivel is in a league all to himself.

michaellinder
Barry, although I remember The Fugs well (a/k/a The Village Fugs), I'm not sure I'd want to work on photographs while playing their music. It would be way too distracting.

My own preference would be an acoustic jazz piano trio - Monk, Peterson, Corea, et. al.
