bob_cook
I'm trying to figure out if the Panasonic 8mm fisheye for micro 4/3s is really a fisheye, i.e. curvilinear. As opposed to a super wide rectilinear lens. Haven't had a chance to actually mount one on my EM-1, but want something really wide. Anyone with practical experience who can help?
Robin Smith
It wouldn't be called a fisheye if it was rectilinear. I don't think it is possible to produce a lens with a 180 degree angle of view that is rectilinear anyway.
Robin Smith

Mind you, my 14mm Samyang only covers 115 degrees and it stretches the edges more than enough. I imagine the edges of a 180 degree rectilinear would be very weird indeed!
dmanthree
I own this lens. It is a "full frame" fisheye. The angle of view is 180D corner to corner, and the image fills the frame. It does not produce the curricular 180D view.

FWIW, it's an excellent lens. Also, if you want something really wide, but not a fisheye, look at either the Panny 7-14 or the new Oly Pro 7-14. I have he Panny, and it's also excellent.
bob_cook
Thanks for your answers. Just ordered one from B&H. I'll use it for some "intimate" landscape stuff I like to do, and my son will use it for his underwater stuff. In a housing, of course.
