Hi Y'all.
I bet a couple of you (Matt) had quite a bit of snow this week. Here in Indianapolis we got about an inch, nothing to brag about, but it was a bit early.
Still haven't had a chance to get out. So more from Australia.

Whitsundays, Queensland (possibly the world's softest sand). Pentax K3, 55-300

To be honest on the next shot I randomly took a photo (it was a pretty deep dive for me). I didn't see the shark until later.
The third image is a sorrowful one. Because of pollution in Queensland, many of the coral reefs are overgrown with algae. Under this large brown algae is a coral head, in fact entire fringe reef entirely killed by pollution, likely run-off of fertilizer from Sugar Cane plantations or human waste. Really a sad state in any reef close to shore.

Still getting that 502 message, and have to get out of photo.net entirely to get anything else done.
Third, the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church; built in the 1890s, destroyed (except for the tower) iun 1943, and rebuilt in modern style in the 1960s. The destroyed tower is preserved as a memorial, and a reminder against war. All these pix with the K-5 and either the DA 16-45 or DA 40/2.8 LTD.

It was clear and cold most of last week. Not great for ski conditions but perfect for ice!
I went down to the river one morning.
K-3 & DA* 16-50
<a title="IMGP5624-Edit by Matt Burt, on Flickr" href=" IMGP5624-Edit src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7532/15661705079_6cef0b92c5_z.jpg" alt="IMGP5624-Edit" width="640" height="426" />
.
The local skaters were all pretty excited for these conditions. This is a self portrait. It gets spooky on ice that big. It pings, groans, and creaks a lot! Those clouds moving in dropped some snow which "ruins" the ice. But it makes the skiing good so I'm ok with that!
K-3 & DA* 16-50
<a title="IMGP5843-Edit by Matt Burt, on Flickr" href=" IMGP5843-Edit src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8588/15830700466_dd666c3331_z.jpg" alt="IMGP5843-Edit" width="640" height="426" />
.
So the next day we went back to skiing. The new dog sure loves it but she needs to learn some etiquette.
K-3 & 18-135
<a title="IMGP5882-Edit by Matt Burt, on Flickr" href=" IMGP5882-Edit src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8682/15677421908_b5490d4726_z.jpg" alt="IMGP5882-Edit" width="426" height="640" />

I especially love Rick's series here. No I'm not joking.
This is a hdr made from a single jpg. I processed some variations, and 'glued' them together with some tonemapping
True, I love post-processing more than the actual photographing

Thanks, Dorus! I like your series too, and I usually don't like HDR (I like shooting a a lot more than processing!). The shot of the restaurant interior is especially intriguing.
Matt, I really like the first one; the second is rather dark; the third is nicely whimsical.
Harry, the third one is nice. Maybe a bit brighter and higher contrast?
Doug, I missed the shark until I looked for it. What kind was it?

Yury-looks like a fun day on the field. Nice going!+
Rick-No idea what is going on with your message. Photo.net does occasionally act up. As to the shark my best guess is a Nurse Shark, but I'm not sure. Not dangerous.
Harry-I would guess ads for the car need to go over to classified. ;)
Matt-Beautiful day for some fun. Both you and your subjects all made the best of it! Your images are supercool (or super cold).
Anirban-Funny, nicely timed on the first image.
Dorus-My wife is trying to get me to do more postprocessing. I just do things out of necessity usually, but I really need to learn though and you do it so effortlessly. I have to tell you I spent WAY too much time looking at your flying birds trying to figure out if it was real or not (I'm pretty slow sometimes). Nicely done.

I shoot Pentax and usually just lurk our here, but Doug gave me an opening to plug the Weekly Post-processing thread in the digital darkroom forum (titled WPPC [date]), so I thought I'd take it. Feel free to come out and play, especially if you want to wade a bit deeper into the post-processing realm. We'll keep it going as long as it has at least some moderate interest. And it's a good place to learn a few tricks or show off your own.
