stemked Posted August 3, 2014 Share Posted August 3, 2014
Morning Y'all.

I'm going to continue to post images from my trip for a while (I shot well over 17,000 images, I gotta find *someone* to look at 'em!)

Nodose Paper Nautilus shell, Flinder's Island, Tasmania. K3, 100mm macro WDA

I did see a few wild species of carnivores in Australia, 2 quoll species a Tasmanian Devil. Being nocternal the only species I really got a good wild picture was an Eastern Quoll. So this one, a Tiger Quoll, which I did see at the far southern tip of Tasmania is actually from a Devil center near Cradle Mountain.

Spottailed (Tiger) Quoll. Pentax K3, 55-300 DA
Finally an Echidina. The ones on Tasmania are a lot furrier than those on the mainland evidently an adaption for colder weather. Depending how much human interaction they have they will either completely go aout their business (like this one) or they will curl up in a spiny ball.

Echidina, Bruny Island, Tasmania Pentax K3 (I think I was using the 100 DA macro)

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
duane_mills Posted August 3, 2014 Share Posted August 3, 2014
Great Shots Doug. It's very interesting to view photos of creatures I have never seen before in their native habitat. That's one of the best parts of POTW - seeing other parts of the world through the eyes of others. Here are a few shots from this week...

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

snik75 Posted August 3, 2014 Share Posted August 3, 2014
There is a path that goes up into a neighboring woods. One plant is everywhere, with cool little yellow flowers. Couldn't quite capture the feel, this was the closest I got.

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
htarragon Posted August 3, 2014 Share Posted August 3, 2014
Nick - How did you get such a perfect exposure - clouds, sky, and sunflower petals perfectly exposed. Colors crisp and brilliant and able to see the veins on the flower petals. Great shot!
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
snik75 Posted August 4, 2014 Share Posted August 4, 2014
Thanks Howard! To tell the truth, I had to process that one a fair bit. :-) I had exposed for the flower but not to blow out the sky, so I was able to bring it back down from white to blue. And I had to bring up the flower a bit to see the texture in the center. I used LightZone for the exposure, and Perfect Effects to give it even more "pop". Glad you liked it! Hope the peek at the making doesn't ruin the sausage.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
MattB.Net Posted August 4, 2014 Share Posted August 4, 2014
Monsoon season is upon us here. It's bittersweet in our household. I love to watch and photograph the storms and especially lightning but my poor wife has been struck in the past and isn't so enthusiastic about it!
K-3, DA15
<a title="IMGP5703-Edit by Matt Burt, on Flickr" href=" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2914/14819221723_2bc1203da5_z.jpg" alt="IMGP5703-Edit" width="640" height="426" />
.
A 7 (vertical) shot panorama of a nice sunset the other night over a nearby creek.
K-3, DA15
<a title="IMGP5949-Edit-Edit by Matt Burt, on Flickr" href=" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3841/14628203078_1b6feb8d75_z.jpg" alt="IMGP5949-Edit-Edit" width="640" height="314" />
.
Enjoying summer as it slips away
K-3 & DA40
<a title="IMGP5854 by Matt Burt, on Flickr" href=" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2906/14801419776_98e2a3c4ab_z.jpg" alt="IMGP5854" width="640" height="426" />
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

duane_mills Posted August 5, 2014 Share Posted August 5, 2014
Terrific images from all. Keep 'em coming! Matt - the lightning strike is amazing. Nick - all that work in post on the Sunflower really paid off. Dorus - great to see your photos here again - that fisheye shot is neat - Pentax 10-17?
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
htarragon Posted August 5, 2014 Share Posted August 5, 2014
Nick - I think I'm actually relieved. You did a great job.
Duane - # 2 is very Addams Family - eerie light.
Matt - Outstanding shots! And what a wife! Hit by lightning and still walking around and a little gun shy? Duh! That last shot is iconic.
Dorus Glad to see you back - really like the last one.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

dorus Posted August 8, 2014 Share Posted August 8, 2014
thanks Duane and Howard for welcoming me back. I am however the same as Guus Giesbergen, while Dorus Oshiva is an abandoned artist name. It's just that I'm getting mixed up with the logins....
So I haven't been all that far away :)
The fisheye was made with a Samyang 8mm, a very nice lens for little money
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
