Keep those batteries warm!

Speaking of chilled batteries, I thought I'd take advantage of a cold, "dry" snow, and take the smaller camera drone out for a spin while the flakes were coming down. Made for some interesting video up at the top of some pine trees before the wind got too high. I guess we never stop playing in the snow, we just do it differently when we get older. Let's see some photos!

Matt Laur
For some reason, it only takes a bit of snow for every cardinal in town to find the back yard feeder. With heavy clouds and snow falling right at sunset, I thought I'd see what I could get away with at a higher ISO in really bad light. Three males, and three females if you look closely enough.

lex_jenkins
Still haunting the Stickplace Heath, this time with the soft focus lens. Spherical and chomabs aplenty. Finally found a faux-film preset with DxO FilmPack3 that I like - the default setting for Kodachrome 25. Pretty close to the real thing, in daylight. The K64 preset is much too magenta.
Nikon D2H, Spiratone Portragon 100mm f/4, ISO 200, 1/350th @ f/4

"The little smoke and the allies" (for you Castaneda fans)

"For the longer I looked the more certain I became that these figures were real and living, though perhaps not
according to the standards that the camera and the biologist would insist upon."
--The Willows, by Algernon Blackwood

elliot1
A recent moon-rise over the Atlantic. Although there was a lot of atmospheric disturbance, partially due to the cold weather, it was none-the-less spectacular to watch. The pictures do not do it justice! I have never taken the time to watch one before and strongly recommend it should you ever have the opportunity.

The black areas at the bottom are huge waves near the horizon (about 14-15 miles away) that are blocking the moon's reflection on the ocean. The area of the reflection on the water is more clearly seen in the 2nd and 3rd images.

Kent Shafer
No flash was allowed inside the bowling center, of course, and the little Coolpix isn't the greatest in dim light. johnfarrar
Elliot - those moon pictures are fantastic. There is a thing called an 'omega sun' which looks like your #2 and #3 and is believed to be a mirage, not a reflection. Could this be true for your moon too?
