michael_bradtke Posted March 19, 2014 Share Posted March 19, 2014
Ummm If I remember correctly there is a way to reset the scanner software to factory defaults. I think it was in the tools settings.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Glenn McCreery Posted March 19, 2014 Share Posted March 19, 2014 Try using Viewscan if you are not already doing so. There is a free trial version. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

thirteenthumbs Posted March 19, 2014 Share Posted March 19, 2014
Turn the scanner off, disconnect the power, and let it sit for an hour or longer then try it again. If it works correctly note how long it has been on if it goes out again.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
dalibor Posted March 19, 2014 Author Share Posted March 19, 2014
@Charles
I've tried to turn off the scanner and its power for more than one hour and nothing changed. Actually, the preview image is even worse!...
@Robin & Glenn
I will try to download Vuescan and report on the results.
Thank you everybody!
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
peter_weimann1 Posted March 19, 2014 Share Posted March 19, 2014
You have set ROC, GEM and DEE to neutral. Try to switch them OFF. I found them to be troublemakers.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
dalibor Posted March 20, 2014 Author Share Posted March 20, 2014
@Peter
There doesn't seem to be the option to turn them off... They are all set to 0 or unchecked and in the options panel it shows Neutral instead than OFF. I checked Preferences as well and there are no options to turn them off.

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Wayne Melia Posted March 20, 2014 Share Posted March 20, 2014
Have you tried unplugging & replugging the communication cable between scanner and computer? Are you using the scanner standalone or importing via TWAIN, and does the problem occur both ways? Kinda longshots, but maybe....
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
victor_ho2 Posted March 20, 2014 Share Posted March 20, 2014
Download the trial version of Vuescan. It's free. Nikon doesn't support the scanner and software any longer. OS systems will continue to change so you can't go back. Vuescan was definitely worthwhile when I switched. Something's changed and you can eventually get back to the start but why?
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
dalibor Posted March 20, 2014 Author Share Posted March 20, 2014
I tried unplugging. It didn't help.

I downloaded Vuescan and the problem is present there too:

It will probably be a scanner malfunction.
Not exactly good news...
Thanks everybody.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
john_enea2 Posted March 20, 2014 Share Posted March 20, 2014
try calibrating the scanner every time before you use it. i re-calibrate it whenever i change film types, from B&W neg to color neg to slide film and so on. it makes a big difference.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
dalibor Posted March 21, 2014 Author Share Posted March 21, 2014
It is definitely a problem with the scanner.
When I tried to calibrate it I received the hardware error message.
Since I doubt there is a service where I could send it to repair, all suggestions are more than appreciated. Thanks!
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
