Happy Thursday everyone! I make an effort to post a photo each Thursday that had been made during the prior week, but unfortunately this week I am not able. This week has been extremely busy and I haven't clicked the shutter once. I'm posting a photo from two weeks ago and hopefully next week my photo will make up for my short drought from photography. I hope everyone has a great weekend and for those in the U.S. enjoy the Labor Day holiday and be safe! Let's see those photos!

00alzH-493877684.jpg.4e718529d290d4029e5a26f44ed0f38f.jpg

Nathan, I was pretty much a Bizzy Bee the last two weeks as well. (Unfortunately, it was helping a studio that hired me out a few times in the past shut down, putting all their gear on eBay and Craig s List). I needed a break and took a walk this morning and happened upon this busy fella. Fitting for my week.

00alzM-493879584.jpg.74e1812d12d22050bc3b59f45cc0df8d.jpg

Steep Ravine trail up Webb Creek towards the Pan Toll ranger station at Mt. Tamalpais state park last Saturday. Lots of redwood falls here -- they are left as is, except for those portions blocking the trail.

Some of you older folks may know the cartoon character Woody Woodpecker created by Walter Lantz. The cartoon character represented an Acorn Woodpecker, like this one (a female). The tails of woodpeckers are used for support when climbing trees. Shot taken a couple of days ago on Catalina Island. Shade was a little heavy but tried to make the best of it.

00alzh-493887584.jpg.e6aea0d033e565b63178ed5579aae724.jpg

It was another weekend shooting polo for me (but it's a flying club members' day next Saturday and a day watching international cricket on Sunday).
This pony has just come off the pitch after a chukka, on a chill and very damp day. I wanted to get the groom face on, but she was too busy seeing off the rider.

This week I ran across photographer Peikwen Cheng's "Lost and Found" photos of the Burning Man festival in the Black Rock Desert ( http://peikwen.com/portfolio/lost-and-found/ ). His work inspired me create this B&W composit - the sky was taken this week. If you like this, you'll love Peikwen's shots.

00am0s-493923584.jpg.4a0f04201b2710438a1650984b670fe8.jpg

Ken - super nice forest shot!
Jake and James - Sort of like Chicken Little but in this case, "The sky is on fire".
Rick - I like the composite. Before reading your description, I immediately thought of Burning Man.

Minnie, the subject of many of my "test" photos.

While shooting at a local beach, I noticed a pelican walking along the shoreline. This is not something that you see frequently. They usually fly, not walk. Then it stopped and sat down. I started shooting it and approached to within 10 feet. The bird did not move. I was taking advantage of it posing for me. About 10 minutes later, the bird attempted to fly but could not. When I looked at this photo on my LCD, I noticed that there was fishing tackle under the wing. I notified a Park Ranger and waited until they captured the bird. We have a bird sanctuary where they take injured birds to be rehabilitated. A happy ending to a nice day at the beach.

00am1a-493943584.jpg.fe1317a9948ecd5c62667311cce00fac.jpg

Jeff and Ken -- you guys always make me homesick for the Bay Area!

I'm on the road again and my photos are still in my camera for this trip, but here is one from earlier this month. The Gion district of Kyoto has one of the last real geisha districts in Japan and these are real geishas, not models made up to look like geishas for the tourists like you see in other places.

mine is from a location i often shoot at...it's on the property of a family that used to do an old west/prairie settlers show....and since it's on my way down to the rocky river metroparks i usually stop for a few shots when the conditions co-operate

00am2F-493957584.jpg.217c2436617d854163cd99416fbda80c.jpg
