Drove out into the dark wilderness in the middle of the night to try and capture a shooting star. Saw a spectacular streak right across my field of view - as I was taking a dark shot! Then the clouds rolled in. This shot was a test run taken from my garden the night before. Still, the Perseids will be back next year. 5D2 / 24mm TS-E; 30s @ f/4.0 ISO 3200.

00aj5p-490505584.jpg.c88d777432c332d35ae5932bb37912e6.jpg

Rather than the usual polo action shots, I thought I'd show this this one taken during a drinks reception following the Cambridge University vs RMA Sandhurst tournament I covered recently.
This was taken in the entrance hall to the Old College.

Thanks Jan! I was hoping someone would get the thread started. We had to make a trip to the ER at 8pm last night for my mother-in-law. She had a fever and other symptoms after starting chemotherapy this week and the doctors suggested she come to the ER. My iPhone died so I was unable to post from the hospital and I just got home. Glad to see some photos already up. It looks like everything should be fine here, but it's been a long day and I still have to transfer and edit photos, so I'll post mine later.

Thanks Jan. Nathan, sorry to hear about the rough evening.

We've been sent home by thunderstorms on most outings this past week. One was quite severe and the car was about 1/2 mile away. I'm not complaining about the rain, but the forest is not the best place to be when the sky splits open. This is Cantharellus lateritius, one of 6 chanterelle varieties we have seen in our area.
00aj6P-490521684.JPG.95ed0397c9c92d7f59a01963dd8f81df.JPG

Nathan, sorry about your troubled evening...

A zoo shot from last Thursday here. It was a warm one here in the Sacramento area, but the red pandas visited for a short while in the morning light before heading off to their air-conditioning.

It's the darnedest thing. I spotted this Raccoon by the edge of a pond. They are very wary critters so I tried to be stealthy to position myself for a shot. It appeared he was drinking. As I got closer, I was surprised he didn't notice me. I got fairly close and as I got ready to shoot, he took a few steps from the waters edge, laid down and died right in front of me. It took me a while before I could figure out he had passed. I guess it was just his time.

It was a bit strange yet I felt somewhat honored to be with him for his last moments.

Nathan, hate to hear about the MIL unit. Been thru that one. Hope it goes as well as it can.

Weather and work have gone against me the past couple of weeks. I'm jealous of anyone with a meteor shot!

Nathan - Sorry to hear about your mother in law.
Laura - both this week's and last week's shots are really good. The mushrooms I find don't seem so photogenic.
Thom - I like this shot. The bright colors on the dark background work for me.
I'm still working my way through my vacation photos. This is a semipalmated plover.

Nathan, Sorry to hear about your Mother-In-Law, best wishes in the outcome.

Haven't been able to participate the last few Thursdays but, we are getting some cooler weather here in Kansas so I did get out earlier this week, and got to catch one of the White Tail Fawns before their spots disappear.
The doe had twins and I had hoped to catch them together. I was able to observe them for quite some time. And I have the Chiggers to prove it! They didn't seem interested in my posing directions! This one seemed to be the more dominant of the twins so I named him "The Fawnz."

00aj8l-490565584.jpg.81a366d658b909e12681526e75af73fa.jpg
