I spent yesterday shooting a trail running race in the morning and a mountain bike race in the afternoon. My friend and neighbor won them both! Nice day to be out.
The Bike. I was wishing for a little faster sync speed here. I had a flash on a Cactus v5 in a tree to the left and and on-camera flash, both full power.

Very nice photos so far! I like that heron shot a lot Doug--the ripple reflection on the bird is neat!
Mostly I've been shooting field hockey lately. My Sigma 100-300/4 is having focus issues (I need to send it in for repair) so I've been using the 70-200/2.8.

Thanks everyone for the comments over the last couple of weeks on my photos from Colorado. As Matt can tell you, it's a special place with incredible outdoor and photographic opportunities.

Well, back to reality. There are a lot of people who say if you can hike or fish in the Adirondacks, you can hike or fish anywhere. I have truly found that to be true. My wife and I have only been hiking and fishing out west the past 5 summers. Being an eastern flatlander of sorts with 5,000 foot altitude peaks, going west to 13 ers can present a challenge. That being said, the wide open views, trails, etc are so much more psycologically pleasing that it does seem a helluva lot easier than back home.
Case in point was this first hike back home on the trails where I cut my teeth, the Adirondacks of northern New York.
My hiking partners had three choices and left it up to me. One I had done before, one seemed a bit steep on slippery rock surface, and the last I had also done before but from the easiest route. We were to take the "scenic" route. The uh, 13.8 mile scenic route to Sawteeth Mountain.
Needless to say, it went well, but seemed way more grueling than any of the 85 miles of Colorado Hiking.
#1 One of the scenic overlooks along the trail: Upper Ausable Lake

00asW2-498251584.jpg.5eb0c012cb7c542dd4c6059532834ce2.jpg

Nice job everyone.
Bruce - the spiral staircase shot is a nice one. I'm always a fan of a well done one.
Yury - I like the ocncept of the wide shot but I think if the light were on the child it could be better.
Douglas - nice heron reflection!
Dave - that action was well captured. Nice job!
Bob - the waterfall is my fave of this series. Nicely done, especially being hand held.
Howard - I like the sailboats on the river
