Times have changed a lot... since Romero retired on 2000. Bullfighting is currently highly politicized, attacked by certain opinionated groups, and even unauthorized in some spanish cities. This is one of the most "classic" souvenirs.

Lisa, that is one big advantage for being female. At restaurants, my wife sometimes approaches small children, especially girls, and show them simple origami, and most girls like that. Pretty much all parents are also comfortable with it; in particular, my wife is petit and certainly does not look threatening.

Shun, I agree, and that's one reason I even considered doing it. When I'm out taking pictures, most people don't notice me as long as I move quietly and confidently. But if I'm singling out children, I try to ask permission first (or I don't post them publicly).

Kris and John P., my condolences on the loss of your pets.

John Rowsell, you get my vote for best text accompanying your photo. Poor Pearl. :)

The big news here in Memphis this past week has been the flooding from the Mississippi river. While it hasn't been too bad here, there have been some areas that have been affected. Parts just south of here have been hit much worse, and it is expected to be even worse in south Mississippi and Louisiana. This picture was taken this past Saturday. The river didn't crest here until yesterday.

00YiRE-357737584.jpg.46a703897aa4149cc1d5d26eed6b6e89.jpg

Well, it was still Wednesday when I got going tonight... So, I've been out shooting some new stuff and of course there are plenty of spring hatchlings around. I found this gang of youngsters following mom around and couldn't help notice the great expression on the little guy toward the back, seems like he's amazed and taking it all in.
A bit late this week, but it is good to be back, guys,...
Very, very proud of my daughter in the Norwegian Championship in Freestyle/Discojaz last weekend. She came 3rd in one category, 8th in another, and danced in quarter- and semifinals in 2 other categories. The competition was fierce and the skill level very high among the dancers

I took in the swingle singers www.swinglesingers.com performance last night in my Church in Montreal and it was fabulous - all without musical instruments. They finished the show with the 1812 overture - canon shots included, to a standing ovation and had to come back and do two encores. I took this image from the back of the audience hand held with 2000 ISO.

Great shots this week. These are the ones that particularly caught my attention:

Henrik, nice western portrait in B&W
Panayotis, your dog with the ever-useful 50 f/1.4 on DX
Richard A, the Harley from a low angle; P&S can produce great images
Rick Moran, (no relation), great Ospreys
jf zhang, very punchy rendering of a sunny afternoon
Alex Foto, beautiful orange tulip
Tom Schonhoff, wow, what a monkey!
Shun, superb hummingbird
John DiLeo, kid with crayons is terrific, right close in... I've never tried this with a portrait, but I will now
Per-Christian, congratulations to our daughter! Great shot.
Congratulations Kent. Grandchildren are fab. And, fun to photograph.
Kris and John P, sorry to hear of your loss of your pets.

Enjoyed the pups and birds especially this week, but so many cool shots, as usual. Always rough when we lose a four-legger Kris and John P, all the best to you. I won't even get into how I always manage to murder my shots uploading them, PS is definitely not one of my stronger points, lol.

Thanks to all for the congrats. I'm embarrassed by the horrible picture, though. It looked OK on the tiny netbook I used while traveling, but seeing it now on my calibrated home setup—yuch! I promise to do much better by Daphne in the future. You will all be bored to tears with her in no time.
