A happy Wednesday to you, Nikon people. It's that time of year when every weekend has me out with a camera chasing dogs around. Once in a while, they go where I'm not inclined to follow. This two year old was on a duck expedition, and I opted to stay on the muddy pond bank to admire her purposefulness and drive. Not a single distraction on her mind - and I know I can learn from that. Had your Nikon gear out, with a purpose? Share a photo!

00YWKK-345601584.jpg.92857c2bf19feb3b828679f94d4840fc.jpg

It was a lot of fun working for a week putting together a benefit event for the victims of the earthquake/tsunami/nuclear plant here in my small city, Ojiya, Niigata.

At the local gymnasium we have 200 people being sheltered and waiting to be placed in a home. Vendors from the city helped to the event donating money and quiet a lot of people showed to helped.

Some artist and performers donated their time. The vendors donated the food and their work. Young people did the manual worked. I took the pictures and videos and did some computer work and I paid for my food :)

Regular visitors would buy GREEN tickets and they would exchange them for food and drinks. The refugees staying at the gymnasium were given unlimited number of PINK tickets and they as well would exchange them for food and drinks.

We collected a bit over 5,000 USD and the money was given on the spot at the end of the day to some local authorities from Fukushima Prefecture.

Some more shots if you guys would like to take a look: http://www.photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=1002008

Hello Everybody,
my contribution this week is a photo from a burlesque show I photographed last week. This lady, La Viola Vixen, was all adorned in peacock feathers. She was stunning.

I rode up River Road on the east bank north of the city the other day. This is Carville, La. south of Baton Rouge and the Indian Camp Plantation, known for its history as the Center for the study of Hansen's Disease (a leprosarium) for the US. It is just outside of St. Gabriel, La.

Here is a shot of Naramata village located in the South Okanagan, British Columbia. It has been a stormy spring so far but april showers bring may flowers right? Well hopefully that is the case. It has snowed over 2 feet this week not far up the hillside. Nice antique pussywillows and colorful Green Jay. Never knew there was such a bird. Can't wait to see what else is to come.

00YWKs-345613584.jpg.48827ed74f9c58ae1e83b5e7a19608c8.jpg

Happy Wednesday, everybody! Great pictures already.
Here is my contribution: my golden retriever doesn't get the fun of a real hunt, unlike the dog Matt photographed, so he tries to get squirrels, usually with little success.

00YWLB-345623584.jpg.51b22cdd7661014f3fb755b0c950d207.jpg

Good Morning Nikonians,
This is an offering from a photo road trip last month. A group of Seals were loitering around a fishing vessel sorting and re-loading it's nets. One of the fishermen chucked a fish still stuck in the nets into the harbour...this seal caught the fish in the air before it hit the water, like a pet dog waiting for a treat to be tossed. Then it all got interesting as the lurker in the bottom of the picture realised they'd missed out!

Nikon D40X (50-500mm F/4-6.3G) @ 50mm, F/4.5 @ 1/80s, ISO 200

00YWLW-345631584.JPG.b3fee06e1154c50dad3bb8743fbe2154.JPG

I'm sure we did 13 last week ... but if we are going to "get stuck" on a number 13 is as good as any.

I shot this bird (not sure exactly what it is) at the end of January. Its blue eyes stood out among the many sulphur crested cockatoos that feed off the fruit trees around this time of year. I had forgotten about the shot but Jeannean's experience with the parakeet reminded of it. As Jeannean pointed out with her wonderful capture of the "frozen parakeets" being in the right place at the right time are the magic moments of good fortune. And when (in her case) you can say, I had to "zoom OUT", that's the icing on the cake.

Camera: Nikon D300
Lens: AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VRII with TC-20E III
Settings: 1/100s at 400mm with f/5.6 and ISO 220 (Manual, hand held)

00YWLk-345635584.jpg.598fec0d7bf22216ea9997c74d5e970c.jpg

This one was taken yesterday in Laprairie Quebec next to the St.Lawrence river. 48 hours prior to this image there was nothing but ice with a few patches of water. I would like to title this "Taking a Shave" and it is my abstract view of the natural world. Kudos to all of the images here - lots of variety and all of a high quality. Have a great week.

00YWMN-345645684.jpg.5acfa23a787552b9e6dd615556db140c.jpg
