astrotrac accessories?

guider based on some other positive postings I've read here. I know a little bit about astrophotography and this will be used while I travel because I want to travel very light and taking star scapes something I want I want to do while traveling in dark sky country.</p>

<p>My question is what other things do I need to go along with this. I have a decent tripod and ballhead.<br>

I also have have a 1.8 50mm which I think I will be doing most of my work with to start. Is there anything else I need to go along with this?</p>

<p>A car?<g> Paul, have you considered buying a less expensive telescope from Meade or Celestron? You would probably get more gear, including a scope, and the star finder hardware to slew to objects in the sky, and depending on the quality of scope, maybe even the newest GPS system to automatically set the scope for your latitude. It would make setup a lot easier. Then you have the option of letting your camera piggyback on the scope, or using a T adapter to shoot through the scope itself.</p>

<p>I own an Astrotrac and I believe the OP wishes to make time exposures. I'm not sure the hardware as described in the second post will allow that specific function.</p>

I don't own one but looked into buying one a few years ago. I agree with Charles and think you may need to add more support and possibly a power source etc. An inexpensive equatorial mount with controls may be sufficiently portable and cost less than the Astrotrac . . . just an idea.
