dotty_waxman
In earlier versions of PS I was able to scan directly from File>import & Nkon scanner was accessible. Has this option disppeared in CS5? Is there a work around? Thanks in advance.
William Kahn
I have the same problem with a Minolta scanner (Silverfast AI software). My workaround is to scan to a file, then open the file in CS5.
peten
Twain support for scanners is no longer a default on CS5. It can be downloaded from adobe. Note that it does not work in 64 bit CS5, only 32 bit but will work fine on 64 bit operating system. See this link.
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/828/cpsid_82824.html
Took me a while to find this out too.
dotty_waxman
Peter, Thanks so much. I was able to access/download the software but after restarting PS CS5, all it did is to allow access to my flatbed scanner, CF and SD cards. Nikon scan IS connected but not showing up. Hmmmm. bgelfand
Hi Dotty,

If you have applied the 12.0.2 patch to CS5 you will have problems. See this thread on the Adobe Forums: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/762607?tstart=0

I just applied the fix a fellow came up with that involved changing the PATH environmental variable. It works like a charm on CS5 x32 under Windows 7 x64.

1) First go here and download the TWAIN plug-in http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4688

2) From the download package copy the file Twain_32.8BA to:
Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Plug-ins\Import-Export

If you are running a 32-bit version of Windows the top directory will be just "Program Files" You will need administrator priviledges to perform the copy.

3) Go to Control Panel > System. Click on Advanced System Settings. Click on "Environmental Variables". Edit the "Path" variable and add ";C:\Windows\twain_32\Nikon\Nikon Scan 4.0" less the " marks, but be sure to include the ";" which acts as a separator character.
This fix was devised by a fellow on the Adobe Forum named darcom-pl.

4) Shut down your system are re-start.

5) Start the 32-bit version of of CS5, Photoshop CS5 (x86).

6) Under File > Import you should now see Nikon Scan 4.0.
dotty_waxman
Brooks, Thanks. I already have the file installed and just need to access it from file>import. I'd rather not use a 3rd party 'fix". I appreciate your input/suggestion, though.
bgelfand
Hi Dotty,

Adobe just released update 12.0.3 that should fix the TWAIN problem. Try an update to CS5.
dotty_waxman
Brooks,

Thank you.

I had a major PS problem a few days ago & after an hour on the phone with Adobe, I was advised NOT to do the recent update (I believe it was #12). He advised waiting for the next one only since I had just reinstalled CS5.
bgelfand
Hi Dottie,

All the updates to CS5 start with 12; Photoshop CS5 is the 12th release of Photoshop.

He probably advised you not to apply 12.0.2, which was the previous fix.

By the way, what operating system are you running? Mac? Windows7? Windows Vista? Windows XP?
dotty_waxman
Windows Vista 32. Sorry I neglected to include that.
bgelfand
Then, if you have copied the file Twain_32.8BA to the proper directory, you should be up and running. The big change in PS5, for TWAIN, is that the TWAIN plug in is NOT automatically installed when you install CS5.
