How to access Nikon scanner from File>import in CS5.

Recommended Posts

Twain support for scanners is no longer a default on CS5. It can be downloaded from adobe. Note that it does not work in 64 bit CS5, only 32 bit but will work fine on 64 bit operating system. See this link.

Hi Dotty,

If you have applied the 12.0.2 patch to CS5 you will have problems. See this thread on the Adobe Forums: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/762607?tstart=0

I just applied the fix a fellow came up with that involved changing the PATH environmental variable. It works like a charm on CS5 x32 under Windows 7 x64.

1) First go here and download the TWAIN plug-in http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4688

2) From the download package copy the file Twain_32.8BA to:
Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Plug-ins\Import-Export

If you are running a 32-bit version of Windows the top directory will be just "Program Files" You will need administrator priviledges to perform the copy.

3) Go to Control Panel > System. Click on Advanced System Settings. Click on "Environmental Variables". Edit the "Path" variable and add ";C:\Windows\twain_32\Nikon\Nikon Scan 4.0" less the " marks, but be sure to include the ";" which acts as a separator character.
This fix was devised by a fellow on the Adobe Forum named darcom-pl.

4) Shut down your system are re-start.

5) Start the 32-bit version of of CS5, Photoshop CS5 (x86).

6) Under File > Import you should now see Nikon Scan 4.0.

Hi Dottie,

All the updates to CS5 start with 12; Photoshop CS5 is the 12th release of Photoshop.

He probably advised you not to apply 12.0.2, which was the previous fix.

By the way, what operating system are you running? Mac? Windows7? Windows Vista? Windows XP?
