magicord
Can AF-S lenses be used on F-5/F100 bodies? I don't see an aperture ring on AF-S lenses.

magicord
Sorry that I didn't make my question very clear as I still do not understand fully what the alphabets mean on a Nikon lens. What I am asking was the G type lenses, i.e. those without aperture rings. Can I still use them on F5/F100? If yes, how can I adjust the aperture? Thanks again.
leslie_cheung
Rear back dial though I think you can customize it to the front dial.
ilkka_nissila
The F5 and F100 are like DSLRs in this respect; you have the two dials, the back dial normally controls shutter speed and the front wheel the aperture.

andylynn
G means no aperture ring, AF-S means the lens has a (silent) internal focus motor. Those are two different things, but the F4, F5, F100, F6 and everything else from that era or newer (e.g. F75, F80 etc.) supports both of those features. The F5, F100 and newer cameras also support VR.
SolaresLarrave
I have an AF-S 24-85 f3.5-4.5 lens in my F100 (has no aperture ring, does have a Silent Wave AF motor) and an AF-S 24-120 VR f4.5-5.6 (same as the lens above, no aperture ring, but AF-S focusng motor) in my F5. They work perfectly with these cameras. In fact, I even used the AF-S 25-85 with my F80, without a hitch. Long live legacy technology...
