hjoseph7
I can't see how this lens can be any sharper than the non-L series, but at twice the price it must be saying something.
tdigi
I think its more about the IS then sharpness. I can see this being a big seller. If I did not have the 2.8 macro I would be ordering one.

tdigi
Yea me too. Thinking I could sell my ring light and lens for the new IS lens. I think this is 1 case where having IS would really be useful to me. ugh...

tdigi

I know I can improve my skills, especially with macro but I don't think gear will do much to help me mainly because the current 100 macro is a fine lens that I am sure I do not take full advantage of its capabilities. Yes, IS would be really nice in a macro, I rarely take a tripod with me so I would imagine the IS would really come in handy for me. From what I have read you can get an adaptor to fit the ring light to it?
I cant imagine the image quality can get much better then the current macro. Curious to see some samples and test shots with it. Either way I am surprised this lens is not the topic of more conversation.

digitmstr
All prices of new gear usually fall a bit after the novelty wears off, or during holidays sales, etc...

If you are not in a hurry and can't wait a bit things will settle down.
tdigi
Actually the price does not seem that out of line when you compare it to other L lenses. The current 100mm macro is listed at $599. I purchased it new last year for around $425. I noticed many Canon lenses have jumped up in price recently.
