Mike O'Day

"The only distraction for me is the stray spike on the bottom right"

You are right and I feel the same, but I just couldn't avoid it. To shot closer was impossible because I lost focus. In fact, I was going to broke the spikes above and below to clean the image, but one the Guardians of the park thought that it was NOT a good idea. So I left the spikes in its place.

I like your summer house and specially your train station of last week by by Alejandro

Late today...off work this week and taking it easy. Here's an image made in my mother's horribly underlit great room late last week. That room has about a gazillion can lights that produce pretty much nothing. High ISO and cropping in like mad to focus on the express means lots and lots of noise, but I like it anyway. My friend was visiting from Vegas and this was the first chance I got to see her new baby, and make photographs, and I wasn't about to pass it up!

Wonderful shots from everyone this week, as usual. I absolutely love Wednesdays and look forward to this thread all week.

00UCRz-164647584.jpg.34bf581f4cf2489c53b43c2eefacb329.jpg

Thanks to

keerthi s r ( as an architect myself, I enjoy the sense of humor of your loos exposed!)

Tim Evans , lovely apples! (if by miracle I get my passport and visa in time for the US Open, after the tennis in NYC I will visit Philadelphia and its markets. I used to have incredible breakfasts in a market a few blocks from Franklin Bridge but I don't remember the name now)

Benjamin Schaefer , Great how you turn a simple plant in a fantastic mysterious one!

Per-Christian Nilssen , A great portrait of your beautifull daughter! Sorry about the spill. One of my sisters returned last week from her winter holiday in scandinavia (winter here in Buenos Aires) She came with fantastic photos of Bergen, Stavanger Langesund and many other places around the coast. How sad to see that beauty spoiled.

I want to Thanks also to Dieter Schaefer, Filip Lucin, Bernard Mills, Richard Karash, Per-Christian Nilssen, and Sjoerd Leeuwenberg for the nice words about my photo of two weeks ago

and to Jeannean Ryman for her kind words last week

And specially to Lil Judd. That if this thread continues to grow we must pay a salary as official reviewer!!
Bye Bye Alejandro

Tiffany
Here is my contribution from a recent business shoot...I really don't know what it is, but it looked really important, quite abstract and the room was dark with weird yellow light....how could I resist?
I get the joke, yellow light; resist, I,ve been in that room for over thirty years now ;-). Very nicely done under difficult conditions

Hi gang
I didn't have time to shoot anything this week I was very bussy last week and this week I was shooting a wedding on Sunday
I didnt see Dariusz's post but why would someone say those photos are "no good" it's like saying flowers are ugly. Those photos are like part of who created them when you do something with passion you put your heart in it and it shows. So even if the photo is not perfect from technical point of view it represents photographer's view of the world around them. Each photo is unique there aren't two exactly the same even if they are of the same thing taken from the same spot. It's the thought, passion and heart you put in them that makes them special.
Here is my contribution from the wedding I just shot.

Hey can I just say that I think its great that we have a couple of wedding guys putting up stuff that they really like from their regular shoots? When you think about how much weddings contribute to the commissioning of phptography each and every week - even if its not everyone's cup of tea - I think its awesome that this aspect is represented here and some of the images are beautiful (eg Kris and Tim this week, and I know there have been a couple before).

Additional comments... Images that grabbed my attention:

@Murali, it's a terrific shot of a heron. The bird in the grass works well for me. You asked for comments... I suggest a little adjustment. I think the photo has better punch and impact if it's brighter and with more contrast.
@Chris Court, another home run with the white heron. I'm looking hard at these images you've been posting, I like them a lot. As I've said before, I find inspiration and ideas in the photos here; that's especially true of this one.
@Susan, it's a great bird in a really great pose. Nice image.
@Louis, usually I ignore photos of sculpture, but I really like this one.
@Ralph and Ivan, really nice cat photos.
@Nimish, I find action pans hard to do, and this one is really good.
@Ofey, nice still life, simple objects, very well rendered.
@Paul V. Gorky, it's a very nice image, everything radiating from the center, it feels very dynamic.
@Matt Beckett, flower in bowl. Lots going on, all the white swirling around.
@Eric, I like the bubble boy.
@Tiffany, it's a great image that draws attention. Looks like a semiconductor wafer in process. Don't know about the machine.
@Thangavelu, the droplets and their refractions are wonderful.
@Carey, that's a great bug. How do they hold on? Nice soft background with interesting pastels.
@Epp, that's fantastic... whatever and however...
@Jonas, well done, great wide shot, especially impressive that it's HDR. I've never been able to get exciting results from HDR.
@Kim, Lotus flowers are amazing, and that's a nice shot.
@Uzay, I don't know what it is, but it's got my attention. The three birds in interesting positions are just ethereal.
@Barry, very interesting guy. I want to visit this Maui fruit stand.

While walking to work, I glanced these flowers and came a few steps back to take three shots. I was not aware of the bee until I was checking the pictures on my computer. A few days later I passed the flowers again, and was a little bit sad to see they have withered. A photo is a piece of histry.

00UCWr-164699684.thumb.jpg.85e7b5826866f24f976da0f389ae9d9e.jpg

all the shots here are extremely good!

seriously, i look forward to this thread each week. i learn things--not just insights into other photographers' techniques but their insights and inspirations for shooting what they shoot. i like the fact that this thread is universal, with snapshots from all over the world. a window into other lives, other spaces, other perspectives.

this week, i am quite taken aback by the breadth of it all, so much so that i can't even pick a fave! all i can say is, thank you jose for starting this, and thank you as well to all contributors.

This is my first contribution to this Wednesday forum with a recent photograph I took of Jill one Winter evening. D700 + 70-200 VR zoom ISO-360 f3.5 1/200 at 190mm focal length. It has been reduced to less than 100KB and seems to be less sharp than photographs above and than the image in full size; I'm unsure why and blame the cold for unsteady hands for now.

00UCYU-164721584.jpg.701dc4a200501076b3a2d45f424a9711.jpg

HI everybody,
wonderful submissions as always in this thread. I gather we had a troll visit this week - - how unusual. Ah well, glad to see Lex was on top of it.
This week I'm very stressed for time. I have my sister & her sons visiting along with two more people for the rest of the month of August. So I will not be here much for the rest of the month. My sister has traveled from Paris France to Los Angeles - so my time is dedicated to her & my nephews as well as with my sister's new man & oldest nephew's girlfriend. So I'll be doing a lot of trust things for the rest of the month.
So - unfortunately this week & probably for the next few weeks - I will not be able to take the time out to comment on all the shots (unless something insane happens....) so please forgive me lack of doing so.
The thread has as always a wonderful selection of photographs. It is a joy to come in & look at it.
A different submission from me this week. I have forced myself to try something different. I've been working on candids of people I don't know on the street or such location. I have to admit - I can't stand it. I feel like I'm invading their lives & privacy. This is not the form of photography I like doing at all. I've worked on it every day & it makes my skin crawl. In honor of Ton (as I promised Ton to try try people photography the other week) I am submitting a photo I took the other day on the beach of a little girl I don't know - it's a form of candid as I don't know her at all. It is hopefully an acceptable attempt of a candid.
Shot with the D700, 70-300VR (one of my very first shots with that lens) f/8 at 300mm 1/800s ISO 200
