thadley Posted August 12, 2009 Share Posted August 12, 2009
Good morning to everyone. I have decided to submit a water lily image from my recent vacation in the Caribbean island of Nevis. It was shot at the Botanical Gardens where the light was intense and I decided to under-expose by 3 stops and anything that was left in the back ground, I used PS to darken it more. As usual, I thoroughly enjoy the variety and high quality of images already displayed and I will return to see what other images are displayed. Best regards,

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

sebastianmoran Posted August 12, 2009 Share Posted August 12, 2009
As always, great work. I find this weekly thread very, very stimulating. I'll just mention the images that particularly caught my attention:

@Per-Christian, a beautiful image of a beautiful daughter. Of course, our energy and optimism is bouyed by our children.
@Jeannean, that flower blossom is really unusual. Very nice.
@Dieter, I like the composition, exposure, and nice lighting on the face in your candid.
@Pedro, nice feeling in the chrome legs. Nice to find beauty in simple objects.
@Ertugrul, really vivid color! Terrific.
@Wouter, that's a very nice contribution, wrought iron and water.
@Erik, I like the image of the apartment block.
@Hasse, a great pub capture.
@Sjoerd, very nice big bird image. The pair, the personality. Excellent.
@Ray, the butterfly is fab. I like the really strong color with soft greens in background.
@Paul, congratulations on your granddaughter!
@Matt, the cicada skeleton is frightening, should go in a monster movie.
@Robert, a gorgeous photo of Anabelle. When my daughter was born, my film consumption went up ten-fold. Great to see pictures of our kids here.

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

keerthi Posted August 12, 2009 Share Posted August 12, 2009
Hello Fellow Wednesday Posters,
Great Pics as usual.
Alejandro-Nice macro,almost winced.
Bogdan-I think it is the car in the background that makes the picture look great.
Great picture Matt-what I like is the way you share the tech specs,educative.
Tony Hadley-Interesting way to highlight the subject.Darkening the background also helped in the shadows on the lower petals look more defined I guess.
Now my own small effort.They cut away the building to make way for a mass transit system,exposing the loos.

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ofey_kalakar Posted August 12, 2009 Share Posted August 12, 2009
Matt, that is a really cool picture!
This week's contribution is also from the archive. It is a simple composition of salt, pepper and sugar dispensers. I took the photo in an eatery in a part of the city that is a bit eclectic. It was taken following a very cold afternoon of picture taking in nearby alley ways. The alley ways are part of a network in this particular neighborhood that is regularly frequented by graffiti artists and is colloquially known as graffiti alley.
Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

phil_burt Posted August 12, 2009 Share Posted August 12, 2009
Here it is Wednesday again .... and I don't have anything from this week. All of the photos so far have been great. I love this day. My week was filled with picking corn, tomatoes and other garden chores and I didn't get a chance for any photography. So I'm picking a photo from the archives. It has been very hot and muggy here in Western Kentucky so I spied this winter one and decided to use it.
My Best Friend Jake.
phil b
benton, ky

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

trevans Posted August 12, 2009 Share Posted August 12, 2009
Good morning everybody! Lovely posts so far... I love this forum, and especially for this reason!
Some specifics I'd like to mention:
@Per-Christian Nilssen - Congratulations, beautiful shot, beautiful subject. I love the sparkle in her eyes.
@Alejandro Held - Striking! I love it! I can almost feel the needles... ouch!
@Mike O'Day - wow... is that with a LensBaby? Your picture alone makes me want one. I love love love the gazebo in focus, with the focus along the shrubs leading your eye through the pic.
@Janne Kaakinen - Gorgeous composition. Lovely colors. This is top notch! Congratulations.
@Dieter Schaefer - Awesome candid shot. I love the hand-rolled cigarette.
@Oskar Ojala - Where in the world did you see that? Haha
@Wayne Wrights - Love the colors and the compression of the foreground and background. It works with the layers very well here. Also, I really like how the sun seems to be set in line with the vees the hills make. Really well done.
@Paul Nance - Congratulations! She's already got quite a lot of hair!
@Matt Laur - I look forward to every one of your posts, and this one is no exception. The only downside is now I can't post my cicada shot as it pales in comparison! Thank you for the detailed description as well.
@Scott Pogorelc - I was down in Athens GA several years ago and they were playing their hometown. Unfortunately, there were no tickets available! Looks like it was a great time.
@Elliot Bernstein - Wow, very nice! I'm surprised the surface isn't more rippled than it is.
@Justin Weiss - What striking blue eyes! Well done on capturing the moment and expression there.

This was taken at the Headhouse Farmer's Market in Old City Philadelphia. They had a most amazing selection of fruit... I had to get some. :)

Nikon D40 + Nikkor 17-55mm
@55mm, f4.5, 1/80s, ISO200

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Keith Gierman Posted August 12, 2009 Share Posted August 12, 2009
Good Wednesday to all,
This week I would like some assistance in identifying the bird in the included photo. Its' markings don't quite match any of the pictures in my field guides so I am not 100% sure what it is. I am thinking it may be a purple finch. Any ideas? Shot with a D80 and 70 - 300 VR at ISO 400 handheld, VR on, 300mm @f5.6, not the sharpest way to take a picture but what the conditions required.
Keith

Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Since I have been under the weather, I have not had a chance to shoot. So my piece is from a few months back. It was taken a little while after the sun rose.
