When using a lens hood can you add a filter on the camera while the lens hood is on the camera ?

<p>Unless the hood is using the lens threads, yes you can. A typical hood, tailor made for the lens, will attach with "bayonet" connection on the side of the barrel, leaving the filter threads available.</p>

<p>Some third party collapsible-rubber style hoods screw into the len's filter threads (I have a few of those), but even these usually have threads so you could put add a filter on front of them. It's not good practice though: you risk vignetting.</p>

<p>Like Mendel said, many of the modern hoods fit via dedicated bayonet fittings, leaving the filter threads available. However, you will probably need to <em>temporarily </em> remove the hood, screw on the filter, <em>then </em> re-fit the hood.</p>

<p>Yes you can, but unless you have very small delicate fingers, you are better off removing the hood first, then screwing in the filter. </p>
