Impressive pictures this week again. Some of my favorites till now are:

Jose - I like the mood and the presentation too - would love to see this picture on the wall...

Shawns arrested torsi - I like the way you play with symmetry - asymmetry

Pedro - great composition! Reminds me of my holidays - how many times i had to knot the „palstek“...

Sjoerd - interesting composition and great car (are they still partially made of ash-wood?)

Rene' - how about making a puzzle out of it :-)

Robert's tulips - a classic picture - simple and beautiful

Hector - fishing at -6°C? Wow! Great picture!

Monika - love your „trespasser“!

Hasse - great play with DOF

Gary - I really like the „muted“ colors

Eli - a great portrait of your son

Waldemar - my absolute favorite! Wow!

My contribution is 2 weeks old - theme was „waiting for the cruiseships“. It was a really cold and gusty evening but the light was perfect. I've used the D700 with the AiS 300/4.5 IF-ED on a monopod. A reflector was adding some fill-light from the right. ISO 400, f8, 1/320sec

I tried to find the old Zeiss-glasses from my grandfather but couldn't locate them. So I've used my Minox-binos as accessory.

Great glasses (7x42) by the way - not as good as Zeiss, Leica or the top-of-the-line Nikons, but a really good value for the money.

Matthew Brennan - you make me feel so unpatriotic :-) While I am normally here posting images from travels afar, you always put up contributions that really capture the essence of our wonderful country Australia. Taking your example, I'm in Bendigo and Benalla next week and will sure to take some camera gear and my walking shoes.

David, because of the low noise of the D3/D700, saturation can be set high without breaking up colors or introducing too much noise. DX images are a bit "thinner" in tonality and there is less flexibility for post-processing adjustments than with 12 MP FX. As for sharpness, the 12MP FX sensor looks at the photos at lower spatial frequencies than a 12 MP DX sensor, which results in higher detail contrast (the lens MTF is higher at lower frequencies) and that may be what you're seeing. Obviously in preparing images for web display, post-processing also plays a role.

Oskar, that's great. It's real enough to be believable and unreal enough to create a sense of wonder.

Gary, I like the composition in and mood of your flower image.

Monika, that's beautiful; great timing also.

I LOVE circus peanuts. Best candy ever! I almost want to order a fine art print... ;-) Lots of great shots as per usual. The Dead Sea shot sticks in my mind, as do the colors of Velvia, which I have discovered for myself recently and am in love with now forever. Alas, no scanner.
This shot is a D80 w/ 16mm f2.8: 1/200 @ f5.6. I'm off to Thailand for 9 days tomorrow, so am looking forward to taking some photos there.

When I get practically paged to post I know I've taken too long. I've not processed all that much from this last weekend at LA Arboretum. I've been dealing with bad headaches & other stuff.....
Also - when I know I've filled an envelope with comments & I'm far from done - well then I know I have too many comments. So - I'm simply going to say that this is a wonderful thread with tons of great shots. As usual I have a great fondness for Nature shots & portraits of children of which we have a few as usual. There are stunning landscapes etc etc & I simply have to refrain from mentioning almost every shot as I really feel our standard is pushing the envelope for each week.
I will however ask Rene' to say hello to Funchal for me. I was there when I was about 15 & you've captured a picture I have well in my mind from that wonderful island. Beautiful place. Anyhow - stunning thread everybody..... & I simply do not want to exclude anyone because I feel we've all worked hard & had fun. So - - -
Great thread everyone.....
Now for my entry. I went out & shot a lot Sunday - but I've only processed a few shots so you'll have to make due with one of them. It's nothing special really. Sunday I went to LA Arboretum for the first time since 1978. I realize how little I've seen of it & what a wonderful place it is. Lots to see & photograph & to quote a friend - If you don't have a camera in hand you're kind of out of place here. So - photographers everywhere.....
I went there equipped with everything from 24mm up to 800mm - just in case... And I got to photograph a lot of different stuff - - but since last year when I found out about this special bird I've wanted to go there & try to photograph it. And would you believe - I found them. So shot with the D700 & the 300mm AF-S f/4 & my Kenko 1.4x TC I here present the very rare & not native to the US Red-wiskered Bulbul which is native to countries from India to China... this is a 50% crop & EXIFs are embedded. I hope you'll enjoy....

Sjoerd, you are absolutely right, I wish I had moved the reflector a bit more forward based on the little girl's position. I was only shooting the older girl when the little one moved into the scene and I saw the potential, but didn't move the light. Lesson learnt for next time. By the way, well caught :-)

I like the curve on the Morgan and the angle you chose, as well as the sheen on the painted metal! Good choice for B&W.

It's still Wednesday in California. I went for several hours to San Francisco, and took this snapshot at the United National Plaza. Instead of dragging along all my newly purchased gear, I just stuck in the bag the set up with which I started three years ago... much lighter...

00TDM6-129855584.jpg.ca205697a6f0393bff79329c0bd83674.jpg

I`d like to mention some pics...
Matthew`s landscapes; I`m becoming in love with Australia.
Gary, beautiful softness.
Ely, I like very much your pic. I shoot a lot in the same style. Yours is beautiful, clean and sharp.
Lil, you`re an especialist. Last week your pic was probably the best, this week is very good, too.
Waldemar, very interesting macro. Your lens calls my attention.
Bruce, beautiful image. Very nice place.
Rob, I bet is an anphibious`eye.

David, very interesting topic. Perhaps you`re right, current "N" lenses seem contrastier and more saturated than previous ones, but the difference IMHO is on the post-processing skills (amongst others). Throughout the Wed PiCs many D40, D50, D60 and D70 shots looks better than some D700 ones (like mine) just probably because the photographer is simply better and knows how to do it.
Perhaps it`s an estupid affirmation but in a gear-photographer-image quality ratio I`d say the winner could be the D300 with any lens.

Thanks Renè, Dennis, Paul, H. Ting, Georg for your kind comments.

Trying again with the macro shot! Using a D60 and with a 44 year old 60mm micro-Nikkor in full manual. Five images shot using different points of focus and then blended in CS4 to give an effective depth of field of about 7cms.
00TDVM-129949584.jpg.212e75a53bb4787e4dcbeef0fa6fd8f9.jpg
