Photoshop and In-Camera Adjustments

Is this correct? If I shoot raw with a D300 and set the in-camera picture control to "vivid", Photoshop Camera Raw will not recognize this, but the Nikon Capture Nx software will show this adustment when opened. Or do these settings have no effect shooting in raw? Thanks ... Ray.

Only NX2 recognize these settings, but you can download at Adobe "Camera settings" and there you have the samwe settings as the in-camera and also the ones you can download from Nikon, but you have to make the adjustment in the ACR, in-camera instruction are still ignored.
The in-camera settings don't influence your raw, but are only instruction how to develop your raw, just as the *.xmp file that ACR creates, which are only instructions to develop.

While I understand the desire for the shortcut of applying your in camera settings to your raw files, just keep in mind that most people base their judgment of what in-camera processing adjustments look best are basing that decision on what the camera's monitor displays (usually viewed in not the best viewing environment) and that the preview you are looking at is based on a highly compressed 8 bit per channel JPEG using a small gamut color space.

Also worth keeping in mind is the fact that in-camera settings will affect the camera's histogram display. If you are using this histogram to guide exposure, extreme settings may lead you astray; particularly if you are trying for maximum exposure.

1) No adjustments are made to the actual RAW files in-camera. 2) Only Capture NX will use the camera settings, and that can be over-ridden in NX with "profiles" for the body and type of subject, so: 3) use the camera settings to optimize the LCD display for your working conditions (sharpness, contrast, brightness, etc.) but be sure to over-ride these settings in Capture NX. This can all be done with adjustment batch files in NX.
