jvanark
When looking at a chart or software to determine hyperfocal distance and the focal length of the lens is asked for is the the "real" focal distance of the lens used or should the crop factor of the camera body in use be taken into account?
SCL
Real - a crop doesn't change the world of physics. The focal length of the lens is the focal length of the lens. Just because a crop sensor only covers part of the area, the hyperfocal distance isn't affected.
James G. Dainis
You can check it out with this depth of field calculator:
http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html
The format used does affect the hyperfocal distance. Smaller formats need a smaller circle of confusion for a given enlargement. If the chart is based on a given circle of confusion size, the greater enlargment needed from a smaller format will result in loss of acceptable focus at the near limit.
James G. bill_clark___minnetonka_mi
Perhaps this will help:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circle_of_confusion

It's rather confusing to me! (Just kidding!)

Hope this helps!
