benjaminoliverhicks
So it's snowing right now in Baton Rouge, LA, and this is my first time seeing snow! I'm sure it doesn't compare to the snows that a lot of people are used to, but for me it is pretty sweet. I took a few of pictures with my RB, couldn't pass that up. I am going to sleep for a little while, as I have a final this afternoon, but I will be waking up in an hour to walk around campus with my RB when there is light, if it is still snowing! Just wanted to share!

ronald_moravec1
The national news had snow in east Texas last night. I suppose it is moving east.

Don`t worry, you will tire if it pretty fast.
mark_chartrand
Benjamin, We all hope your final goes well, Snow would be even nicer if it could be experienced when it was 70 or 80 degrees out! Enjoy. Mark
anov
I don't mind first or second snow of the season, it's the third and fourth etc I don't really care much. Anyway, enjoy the snow.
benjaminoliverhicks
I couldn't really go back to sleep. So I put on my pea-coat (It's finally getting some good use.) and took my RB on a walk around campus. It was pretty awesome. Snow was staying on the ground, and people were making snowmen and having snowball fights. I think I got some good shots. The downside is that I did not think about the fact that snow is water and there would be puddles. I wore the wrong shoes. They are soaked, and my toes are freezing. It is no longer snowing. There is just some cold, cold rain now.

Ronald: I do think, if I would have had to deal with it snowing for the whole day, I would be done with it, but it was awesome. I had a great time.

Thank you all for the luck.
William Kahn
It's the same, every winter: eager anticipation of the first snow, followed two months later by weary anticipation of the last snow. Enjoy it, while you and the winter are still young......

sarah_fox
I did my undergraduate in Houston, where it almost never snows. Every year our U would bring in a snow truck and blast one of the quads with artificial snow to boost the spirits of our homesick Northerners. Good memories. :-)

Good luck with your final!
KenPapai
My brother lives in New Orleans and was also having fun with the snow. I don't miss it having grown up in snow that blew off of Lake Michigan.

What is a "RB"? Running Back? Rollei Back?
benjaminoliverhicks
Sorry the "RB" I'm referring to is a Mamiya RB67, medium format camera.
Once again thanks.
robert lee
Mamiya RB-67. About the size of a VW and weighs about as much. Gotta have pretty good arms (or lower back) to haul that kit around for long.

Oh, be mindful of how you're metering. If you're doing reflective off the snow, increase exposure by about 2 stops.
alex_lofquist
It's rather difficult to explain how to handle snow, but I am sure you'll get the drift.
frank_dzambic
Boy I got a chuckle out of reading this thread, and the OP's enthusiastic reaction to seeing his first snow. It reminded me of this (fictitious?) diary someone wrote out about their first snow experience. It's definitely a must read.

http://www.highdesertas.com/pdf_files/My_Move_to_Bend.pdf
