Searching in PN for pictures by lenstype?

How can I search within photo.net for pictures taken with a certain lens (or camera)?

 

For example I'd like to see pictures posted on PN taken with a Canon 17-40 lens.

That functionality is not supported here, and even if it were, few people post any information of this type when they post images. Just out of curiosity, what does it matter what equipment was used to make any given image?

I'd be curious as it could provide some resonable idea of image quality from a given lens. That being said, with webimages you can't tell all that much really other then maybe distortion (unless that has been corrected for in post).

Although that functionality is not available on PN, you can do that search on flickr using tags.

Not all people use tags, but it's something.

The question of tags has come up a few times by subs and I think Josh would like to implement a form of tagability. I suspect this may be a shortcoming of the legacy PN software.

 

But some tags would be one of the most useful features that could be added. Maybe Josh could give us an updated scoop, but this is the wrong forum, maybe Lex could crack a good joke instead?

Tagging is being considered here. We're gonna do it with Krylon spray paint.

Is Krylon manufactured in a facility that also transmutes kryptonite? If so I must abstain.

 

Anyway, my reason is the same as Matthew's: to get some idea of the pictures possible with a lens that I'm interested in. (Unsurprising maybe, my name translated in English is Matthew as well...)

I have found the best pictures by lens type on pbase.com (to be found under "camera" strangely enough). Pixelpeeper (which seems to have vanished) had them too. But I was interested whether the same function was under photo.net because of the high quality of picture postings here.
