robert_lauder
Am I the only one who cringes when fanboys uses silly nicknames for camera brands or models? Pany (panasonic), Tizzie (Lumix TZ series), Oly, uzzie (Olympus UZ series) UGH!

chelsea
No, Robert, you are not alone. We may be a tiny minority, but you are not alone.
Antonio di Lussi
"Sony" would fit perfectly well in this little sequence of diminutives. I wonder what the full name is, though ...
iancoxleigh
Yes, this is the reason I shoot Nikon. I've never heard a diminutive for Nikon. (just kidding of course) Seriously, it does make me cringe a bit -- it is a little too much affection being shown for an inanimate object. For some reason Oly doesn't bother me anywhere near as much as the rest do.
Leonard-just-Leonard
um, what is a fanboy?
marc_bergman1
"I've never heard a diminutive for Nikon." Well I think the owners are diminutive enough. Just joking. I'll be in town all week. When I think of Oly I think of beer. So when I hear Oly owners talking about glass I get confused. The only diminutive I like is CaNikon. It is written by owners of the lesser brands. What it means is that either Canon or Nikon have come out with a camera that they wish they had. lex_jenkins
Sure, but what would a Chekhov play be without diminutives? I call my D2H "Niki", "Nikolova" and "Silly bastard", depending on mood and whether the battery is dead.
robert_lauder
I kind of like the term 'Canikon' it's a one-word Abstract. Not just a silly affectionate nickname.

crabseye
These folks generally also have silly diminutive names for things other than cameras, IYKWIM nudge nudge.
lovcom_photo
I call my 5D "camera". But then, we have two female cats, and for many months now, and neither have names. Just the other day I asked DaughterOne to name them, but she told me to ask DaughterTwo instead, as she was busy.
KenPapai
I just read "Siggy" today in the EOS forum for Sigma lens.... puh-leeze!
marc_bergman1
What is the opposite of diminutive? If Siggy is the diminutive for Sigma, what would SigMalfunction be?

JDMvW
OMG, I actually read all this and now have to go for a technicolor yawn. Niky? Cannie? And then there's "minty" on eBarf.
markci
Dan, why bother naming cats? They won't answer to a name anyway.
Because it's easier than saying "the black one that clawed out the cones of my stereo speakers" or "the orange one that keeps spraying on the living room carpet."
