andrew_keam
Hi, I have some old 5 x 4in sheet film ( E100S ) and was wondering if age can effect sharpness or is it purelycolor that it effects? Thanks Andrew
btmuir
Well if there is base fog, this can reduce contrast which will effect the perception of sharpness. Maybe someone can comment if age actually effects grain structure?
iliafarniev
Probably depends on how old and what conditions it was in. In my experience the changes in 1,5 over exp. date are minor and for most part almost inperseptable if it was stored properly. If it is like 3 - 5 - 10 years overdue the colors go off good deal but material can be used for creative shooting. The age basically effect everything to one degree or another. randrew1
As Bruce said, age will affect contrast which will affect the perception of sharpness. Age will also increase grain, especially in faster films. Age has minimal affect on the MTF, but subjective sharpness correlates with the signal-to-noise ratio. To a crude approximation, the S/N ratio is MTF/Granularity.
