<p>If you are working in 16-bit (as you should with raw-images), you need to convert to 8-bit before PS will allow you to save as JPEG (an 8-bit format).</p>

<p>These days I've been using a lightly compressed JPEG (ex. 11 on Photoshop's scale) for printing, but TIFF is also good, and widely accepted.</p>

<p>Maybe you mean PS 11 (i.e., CS4)?<br>

But yes, edit in ACR 5.x (CS4's raw editor), then open, change file "type" to 8-bits before saving as very high quality JPG (level 10 or higher, with '12' being virtually, almost lossless compressed).</p>
