joshroot
I'm excited to finally announce this. We have a new benefit for photo.net subscribers. It's called ImagePro @ Photography.com.
It is designed to give photo.net subscribers a location to have a more professional looking portfolio presentation away from photo.net, and with their real business name (if they use a pseudonym on photo.net). URL's will be a _____.photography.com format (for example, mine is joshroot.photography.com). Also, there will be no ads whatsoever on ImagePro sites. This system is not meant to be a replacement for a user's own photography website. But it will give users an advertising-free professional location without the trouble of setting up their own site. There will also be a "search for a photographer in your area" that will give prospective clients a way to find local photographers to hire. Much the same way that subscribers have access to an @photo.net email address, ImagePro users will also have access to an @photography.com email address that can be forwarded to any other email you choose (just like the photo.net system).

The gallery slideshow is a nifty Flash plugin. There are pages available for upcoming events, photographic specialties, professional endorsements, etc. You can customize your ImagePro site in a number of ways. Colors, custom tabs at the top, layout, etc. The style of the site is based on CSS, and for those who are advanced enough, you can actually go in and create a completely customized css file to dictate how you would like your design to look. For those who aren't as tech-savvy, there are a number of existing themes to start with, and we'll be adding more and more in the future.

The ImagePro Galleries are directly connected to your photo.net galleries. So whatever you upload to photo.net will be available for you to show on your ImagePro site. You just pick which images you want to have included in the gallery there. However, images that you choose not to show will NOT be seen on ImagePro. Furthermore, as there is no direct link from ImagePro to your photo.net member page, you will not have to worry about visitors coming from one place and seeing one set of images, then going to the other site and seeing another. That means that if you want to have your ImagePro site focus on your wedding photography, you can choose to only show the wedding images from your photo.net portfolio.

PLEASE READ: ImagePro is still officially in "Beta". That means that there will likely be a few bugs that need to be chased down. Please be patient and help us fix things by letting us know when you find something that doesn't work correctly. We have tested ImagePro extensively, but we know that we aren't going to be able to catch everything.
PLEASE ALSO READ: When you first log into your ImagePro account, the slideshow will default to showing ALL of your photo.net gallery images. This includes any "hidden' folders you may have. If you have images in your hidden folders that you would not like the public to see, I highly suggest that you go to the Gallery Manager and deselect those folders/images. This has to do with the way that the two sites interact. Ideally, it would have been best if we were able to exclude the hidden folders, but that wasn't possible.

As a sample, you can check out a few ImagePro sites here:

http://joshroot.photography.com
http://rosell.photography.com/ (uses many of the same images as above)
http://hannahthiem.photography.com

To get started on your own site, you can go here (first you are going to have to click the "register your photo.net account" link to set up your ImagePro account, then you can login.
http://imagepro.photography.com/login
There is a "getting started" guide here:
Image Pro Getting Started PDF (you will need adobe reader or another pdf program to open)
And a ImagePro Help forum here:
ImagePro Help Forum
Quite honestly, I'm pretty stoked about this feature. I think it is something that many PN members will find useful and it really adds some great value to the photo.net subscriptions. Plus, it is a great example of how the photo.net community can move forward with new features and opportunities, but still stay true to the things that have made this site successful for 10 years.
Any questions, post on the ImagePro Help forum or contact me via the "Contact Photo.net" link if you need privacy about the issue.
Thanks everyone for making photo.net the great place that it is.
P.S. If anyone isn't a photo.net subscriber and wants to be, let me encourage you to click here to subscribe. joshroot
Massimiliano, You need to log into ImagePro with your photo.net login email, not your @photo.net email. For you this would be your @email.it address.

joshroot
People, PLEASE do not post your email address on this thread. You are just going to get piles of spam if you do that.

Matt Laur
One observation, Josh... if I deselect a few images from a gallery, the rendered output seems to have some trouble with the skipped-over images (the resulting table has holes in it). Here's an example: http://imagepro.photography.com/MattLaur/gallery/?cid=14725 And... since there's no way within the new area to alter the ORDER in which the gallery folders (and thus the home page slideshow) appear, perhaps the query that fetches those listings could just honor the sort order that's used in the user's normal PN environment? Just some stuff for your list. Keep up the good work.
tmcleland
Josh, Gotta say, it looks uber cool, but I also cannot get in with my photo.net username/password. Can't wait 'til I can though!

photobiscuits
hang on now! what's this?
"For a limited time - ImagePRO web sites are FREE with a $25 annual subscription to Photo.net"
Alright, how much more will I have to pony up?
joshroot
"Is there a fee to use this site"
Not if you already a photo.net subscriber. Which you are.
joshroot
"Alright, how much more will I have to pony up?"
I think that is badly worded. As far as I know, a subscription to photo.net will include the ImagePro service.
Kostas Angelopoulos
I'm receiving error message when I'm checking a photo out of a folder of one hundred (well, more than twenty I guess is what it matters). Thanks for the new opportunities whichever they are.
joshroot
John Ewart, TM & anyone else who is having a problem signing in with their PN login info: Please contact me through the "Contact Photo.net" link at the bottom of the page.
joshroot
"I'm receiving error message when I'm checking a photo out of a folder of one hundred"
Please explain further. Are you saying that when you pick a single image in a folder that has 100, you get an error message? What does the error message say? When do you get it, right as you click or when you go to save? What browser and OS are you using?
images_in_light_north_west
Josh, would like to add, being able to change the folder order would be good so at least it maches PN or we can do a custom order sort. Thanks Ross
joshroot
"Alright, how much more will I have to pony up?"
I have confirmed that the "limited time" statement was miscommunication between the PN crew and the graphics/layout guys. I will be changing it to:
"When you purchase a Photo.net subscription of any length you will receive an ImagePRO site FREE with web hosting, unlimited image galleries, and six content pages included."
Or something similar. Sorry for any confusion. I can see how that would be suspicious. Like we were taking a page from the bait-and-switch mail order shops or something. No worries though, I'll get it straightened out. joshroot
"being able to change the folder order would be good so at least it maches PN or we can do a custom order sort"
Matt brought that up in the first reply to this thread. As I said, I'll have someone look into it. To be honest, I thought it was already ordering the folders the same as on PN. If I had noticed that it wasn't, I would have said something to the programmers earlier.
