nate_kinnee
I just purchased the Canon CP-E4, and read through its brief instructions. It stated that the protective pouch should be removed before using the battery pack. Is this because of a risk of overheating? The pouch is nice and seems like it would be an ideal way to carry the pack while using it (ie, attaching the pouch to a belt). Does anyone have advice or experience with this? Thanks, Nate (I got no response when posting this in the Lighting forum, so I'm trying here...)
hjoseph7
I have the CP-E3 and I never removed the protective pouch, even during a long shoot. The pouch on mine has a velcro loop so that you can attach it to your belt.
zml
I always use the pouch. The unit gets warm after some rapid-fire shooting but cools down rather quickly. I didn't even know that you are supposed to remove the unit from the pouch for use - as it turns out reading instructions can be beneficially dangerous... jcolwell
Odd advice from Canon, as the case seems so well designed to hold the battery pack while you're shooting. It even has a special opening at the bottom so you can quickly change the battery magazine without having to take it out of the case, or off your belt. I've never had an overheating problem with my CP-E3, even after shooting enough that I had to swap batteries.
dave_holland
Well, I've never used it without the pouch.... Guess my habit of never reading instructions gave me pleasant bliss. I've never had a problem, and I don't remember even feeling it warm. Dave
nate_kinnee
Thanks for all the responses. I was sufficiently boldened to keep it in the pouch while using it for a wedding yesterday. I didn't notice any problems or any excessive heat. Thanks, Nate
