m_p7
I have a friend who is a lawyer at a very small bankruptcy and family law firm (her and her boss). We've discussed in the past the possibility of putting a few photos in the waiting area with a business card holder. They get free office decor, I get free advertising (albeit at a bankruptcy law firm). They recently remodeled the space, so they are interested in decorating the blank walls. The boss mentioned he was concerned about liability, but I told them we could work something out. I looked in my Tad Crawford book for an agreement, but didn't find one. Does anyone have one, or any suggestions for points to cover? I would like to keep this very simple, but cover the necessary things. I was thinking 1) make them liable only for theft or negligence, 2) limit their liability to a reasonable figure per photo and total, 3) indemnify us for reasonable damage to their walls for hanging purposes, 4) some type of clause giving reasonable notice by either party to terminate the display (so we can remove the photos, etc). If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate input.
tonybynum
this is weird, youre thinking you might get some sales from hanging your work where people are going bankrupt, youre working a deal with a lawyer, youre writing the contract and now youre asking for legal advise on a photo site? It's good that youre thinking about the agreement, and willing to work on it, but something sounds strange here. . .
ellis_vener_photography
let's see if I've got this right: they get free decoration and you get what? Nada except for taking on the cost of printing and framing. They should be buying your prints and you shouldn't be assuming ANY liability . ellis_vener_photography
But I do applaud their negotiation skills.
john_h.1
I can't improve on Tony and Ellis' comments. Especially Ellis' follow up. I'll just offer my agreement with them.
danny_wong2
I have a office decor firm which RENTS my framed prints as office decor. They rotate the prints from office to office. My average 3 month net rent received is about the cost of printing, mounting and finshing. I am also in full agreement that lawyers are the most skilled negotiators, especially in family and bankruptcy laws.
richard glover
Bankruptcy clients are not the only people who'll be using the waiting area, of course. Other attorneys, court reporters, office supply reps ...
