abe_hollander
Can't imagine this isn't all automated now, but neat video anyway...
mc2imaging
You might be surprised. Why do you think they are so expensive?
shots worth sharing
Well, now that I know how to do it, maybe I'll set up a shop in the basement.
maurycy
I was really surprised. I thought lens factory was more lab like where there is no dust. Workers in this movie did not even had enough protection in my opinion. A hair or a dust particles from breathing could easily get into the lens while it was assembled. dan_lenski
That's really cool! A great video. Interesting to see just how many steps it takes to polish the profile of the lens, and also how some of the methods involved are comparatively crude and not automated. mc2imaging
<i>"And they are selling a kit lens for how much again? :-)"</i><p> The gal w/o the hair net is on the kit lens line. DA*'s are more expensive because they have to pay for the bunny suits...<p> btw: A quick search for JML Optical found lenses anywhere from $.95 to $25...<p> <a href="http://www.jmloptical.com" target="new">http://www.jmloptical.com</a>
mc2imaging
<i>"also how some of the methods involved are comparatively crude and not automated"</i><p> Also demonstrates why some makers seem to be inconsistent. They can have the best design in the world, but if the old guy in the chair develops Parkinson's...
dan_lenski
What kind of lenses does JML Optical make? Their web site seems to be down...
