  1. I have found the 28-70mm f/3.5-4.5 lens in excellent condition at Cameta Camera and ordered it. It was cheap so even if I don't like it and sell it for few $ less, I am not losing much. Thanks to all who replied and provided valuable insights and recommendations.
  2. I know about the light ability of a f/1.8 prime but I think for a general running around with kids during the day, the f/3.5-4.5 should be enough. I am currently exploring the following lenses: 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 AF-S G 28-70mm f/3.5-4.5 AF-D 20-105mm f/3.5-4.5 AF-D Still leaning towards the 28-70 due to the price and size (I will get more lenses down the road so that wouldn't be my only lens). Next one would most likely be the 35mm f/1.8mm lens (I grew up with film and 50mm lenses).
  3. Thanks for all the replies. I know about the 35-70 f/2.8 and that it is hard to find a good copy that has not been affected by the haze or delamination. I think the 28-70 f/3.5-4.5 would be perfect for me as it is decent, small and light. I have to explore some of the other options mentioned above.
  4. I just got an old D90 body and need a recommendation for a mid-range zoom. I know that the 18-55mm kit lens is pretty good but I rarely shoot family photos indoors to have a need for the wide end. I need something that's more suitable for portraits so that's why I am thinking that an old zoom lens from the film days would be better. Any recommendations for an used zoom lens in the 28-80 or so range? My budget is $200.
