todd_johnson3
I am about to venture into taking pictures during indoor hockey games. I recently purchased a used D200 body and a Nikon 70-200 f/2.8G AF-S VR lens. I read about high ISO settings due to the speed of the game and low light conditions. Generally speaking, what would be ideal settings for this equipment? What ISO, meetering, settings would work best? Thanks! TJ
milton-chris
Todd - this question has been gone through quite etensively in the past month, a couple of threads started by me as well as a number of others. There is some excellent advice in those threads. You need good speed, to freeze the motion, and an ISO that will allow you to have the right amount of light with enough depth of field and not unbearable amounts of noise. Do Nikon's shoot RAW? If so, set WB on auto and shoot RAW with ISO starting at 800, f/2.8, AIServo focus. Thats how stuff is referred to on my 40D - don't know if Nikon's are different. SCL
In addition to the above good advice, it will be highly dependent on the specifics of the lighting...a pro rink with TV cameras or an amateur hockey league, as well as your position relative to the play and subject, and the effects you desire to achieve (blurs for speed, pucks stopped midair, punches in a fight, etc). You really need to clarify in your own mind the specifics and relate them to your camera and lenses.
kevin_b5
I shoot with Nikon D2H using the same 70-200 lens. My settings are generally 800 ISO, f2.8, and shutter speed between 1/250 and 1/400 with AF-C, dynamic area autofocus selected. I use Noise Ninja to clean up the noise a tad.<div></div>
todd_johnson3
I think that I got it somewhat dialed in, except for the WB. TJ<div></div>
