mike simons
Folks - Not sure where to post this; travel is a possibility --- Is anyone familiar with the Cullmann and/or Novaflex multi-base tripod kits that include a ground spike, woodscrew, clamp/bracket, strap, and ball head? Trying to find people with first-hand experience who could let me know if they're gimmicky or actually a useful tool. Looking into one for my father for Christmas. ellis_vener_photography
You do realize that these are very small support systems , meant to work where a standard sized tripod would be too large or too awkward to use?
Ed_Ingold
I bought something like this when I was in high school. It caught my fancy at the time, but I never used it. I still have it somewhere, leather case and all the attachments.
yoni_perlmutter
I bought one of these kits many years ago. It was well-made, possibly useful and definitely "cute". I may have used it once. I either loaned it or gave it to a friend, but in either case, I never got it back. Nor did I ask for its return. I never missed getting it back and until your post, hadn't thought about it. I'm sure there are many who would be happy to get it - Novoflex makes quality products - and it is a worthy gift. I apparently could never figure out just what to do with it. jeff_drew4
I have owned similar concepts only much cheaper versions. I used to think having it my pack or kit was necessary . . . for decades! then one day I actually used it and realized a fine quality, small tripod made more sense for me. Or, lighten my pack by a pound and use a good walking staff with tripod adapter. Photogs are rabid gadget people, so you may actually need the above to satisfy the urge! :-)
bert_f
I certainly laughed when I saw the princes. I have a head I made of acrylics, glued together. Then I cut three lengths of bamboo (I mainly work in Asia, but any piece of wood or metal will do) those pieces clamp on to the head, and viola, I have a tripod. For a heavy tripod I can use heave pieces of bamboo, for a light one smaller pieces of bamboo. The head cost me about $10 to make. Any plastic will do. When I don't need it any longer I can trow the bamboo away, and cut some new pieces next time. Use your head guys, not your wallet.
