josh_gilreath
I just purchased an excelent condition Nikkormat EL at an estate sale, and after i finally figured out that the battery was under the mirror i discovered that it was dead and replaced it. The meter does work, but it appears to be about 2 stops under, compared to my hand held meter and it is kind of slow. I asked another photographer about this and he said to give it some time that it may just need to charge up where it hasnt had a battery in in for quite some time. Is this true? I was also curious if the meter could be calibrated. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Josh
gary_watson
It's 30+ years old. My EL, bought about 10 years go, was always about 1 stop under. Now its meter is jumpy--result of a dirty/worn ring resistor. The meter either works or doesn't--they don't "charge" up, OK? If the meter is consistently "off," then just compensate and live with it. bgelfand
I do not know if he works on EL meters, but Robert Decker http://hometown.aol.com/drwyn/myhomepage/index.html did an outstanding job fixing my old FTn meter several years ago.
