iqbal
Canon EOS 5D was introduced about 3 years ago? Any news about an updated version of 5D? Surprised that during last year, so many versions of Eos like 20D, 30D and even 40D were introduced, but nothing new on 5D front? Any reason? Thanks. asher
It's still selling well with nothing FF competitive in it's price range, so I suspect there's no incentive for Canon to rush things. But it's impossible to predict these things.
tridakfoto
The rumor is that it should be released in early 2008. Jan-Feb. Check out Bob's review also. http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/digital/canon_eos_5d_mkII_4D_6D.html
jason_hall4
You tell me and then we will both know. :o) Sorry could not resist. It's all guess work at this point. But early 2008 would be a fair bet. But I am not a betting man myself. :o) Jason
medina photography cherry
I don't know. some are suggesting feb 08 some are suggesting sep 08. I hope it is feb 08 cause I am buying that sucker as soon as it comes out.
bobatkins
I'm still not sure if a 5D MkII will show up in Spring or Fall 2008, but I suspect one or the other. With the price now hovering in the $2100 region ($1700 if you buy a Pixma Pro printer with it), I'd imagine the 5D is probably selling quite well. shambrick007
Since when is Sept 05 3 years ago?
PuppyDigs
"Canon EOS 5D was introduced about 3 years ago?" Nope, it was first marketed in Fall 2005. That's 2 years ago. I was widely available by early 2006. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
William Michael
Colleagues, an aside: `Since when is Sept 05 3 years ago?` is more date specific and has better clarity for an international audience than `it was first marketed in Fall 2005` and `will show up in Spring or Fall 2008` etc. WW
ralph_jensen
Puppy Face writes: "I was widely available by early 2006." And before that, I presume, you were limited by an NDA? :)
seragram
Yes incedible 3 years as FF frame queen on that price range and as of now only competitiong comes from another canon product the 40D. That is how much ahead Canon has been form the other company. But gap is closing fast! They will upgrade 5D soon I belive.
ray .
Maybe while they're at it they could simplify exposure lock function to a half press on the shutter button..

KenPapai
Dudes, even in perfect English, the 5D is only 2.1 years old.
mike dixon
It just seems like it's been out longer because we've been getting threads almost every week for the past 1.5 years asking when the new 5D will be out.
gaetano catelli
how much longer than 2 years is the longest a given level of Canon dSLR has gone without an upgrade version?
jimstrutz
1DsII was announced September 2004, and the mark III was announced August 2007. 1DII was announced January 2004, and the mark III in February 2007. Looks like 3 years to me. If the 5D follows the same schedule it would be September 2008 for an update. No reason to expect that though, the 5D is not in the same class as the 1 series. Other than the full frame sensor, it has more in common with the 20D/30D/40D series.
bobatkins
There's no competition for the 5D (yet). If you want a full frame DSLR you have to fork over $8000 for a 1Ds MkIII, $5000 for a Nikon D3 (when it's available) or under $2100 for a 5D. I'm not too surprised that Canon don't seem to be in any hurry to replace it with an upgrade.
carnagex_carnagex
Maybe you can expect it at PMA in Vegas. (PMA is Jan 31-Feb 2. )
hjoseph7
"I don't know. some are suggesting feb 08 some are suggesting sep 08." They better hurry up because if I keep dipping into my 5D fund there wont be nothing left.
ray .
It's a classic. Digital color, at least with this camera, is as seductive as a good roll of Tri-X..

paul_rentz
I would not be surprised if it comes at CES or PMA of 2008 as it is the only DIGIC II camera in the current line up that stands alone. Yes, the 30d and the Rebel XT remain in the line up but they have the 40d and the XTi ahead of them. Here's what I figure will come- 14 to 16 meg sensor, DIGIC III or IV with Highlight Tone Priority, dust shake sensor (those are the features that will push it in the line up as many of these are used by wedding photographers- the 5d w/ 24-105 begs to be a 'wedding' camera!) I'll be at PMA, not CES this year- CES is just too crazy and not enough 'photo' interest to me ALTHOUGH there were a lot of new cameras announced there last year! This year it was from PMA (February) to August for the release of the first DIGIC III camera (Mark III 1d) to the 40d and the 1ds so about February 2008 seems like a good fit for the final shoe to drop- the 5ds or 5d DIGIC III or 6d or ? So- any reason? No, but somebody has to be last- and since the 5d was first (full frame at a APS price) this will be last- but worth the wait unless you need a body today!
