jared_friedman
Hey all, About 8-9 months ago I put a 100' roll of B&W plus-x 125 film into a bulk loader. It's been in a drawer for most of that time, but it's been in and out of the drawer a bunch. I'm going to China in a week and I wanted to make sure I had nice film for my trip. Do you think this film is still good, or could it have gotten slightly exposed? Thanks for the help. -Jared Friedman
larrydressler
Depends on what the Epire date of the film was when you put it in. I don't see how it could be bad as the Bulk loader is light tight. Just shoot and process a roll before you go and see though to be on the safe side. Larry
frank.schifano
Why would it be any different from film that's been factory loaded into cassettes? If it's not expired, what are you worried about exactly?
Monophoto
Jared - What is the expiration date of the film and what were the conditions under which it was stored prior to when you got it? Sitting in a drawer in a bulk loader is no more harmful to bulk film than having prespooled film sit in that same drawer in sealed boxes. If the bulk film was reasonable fresh when you got it, and the expiration date was well into the future, you should have no problem.
josphy
It will be fine. I had films in bulk loaders for several years under just regular storage conditions (like in a drawer or closet) and it was fine.
jared_friedman
Thanks for the responses. I had just purchased the film before I loaded it, so it from what I'm hearing, it should be fine. I figured it would be okay, but I was just making sure. Thanks.
ckp
Travel to China a lot? Do yourself a favor and buy fresh film, a lot of film, and all kinds. I'd put 90 percent chance on it being OK, but that 10 percent would make it harder for me to shoot effectively. And if it is bad you will botch the greatest shot you have EVER taken. glenn_thoreson
I have a 100 foot roll of Plus-X in the fridge that's about 10 years old. Every now and then, I spool some up and shoot it. It's still fine.
