bw1664881174
Examples of photos with identical theme Sometimes the best way to learn is to do the old fashioned compare and contrast. Interested in why people like one photo over another etc. I'm sure other people have examples but two I saw this week. Example 1: stripped socks a: http://www.photo.net/photo/3730099 b: http://www.photo.net/photo/5580816 c: http://www.photo.net/photo/5626256 My favourite is 'a'. Its engaging, colours are bang on. Next is 'c', its well lit and the mix of colour and B&W works well. 'C' has a very 'stock' and studio feeling to it. Its perfect but my personal taste I find this less exciting. Example 2: horse bucking a: http://www.photo.net/photo/5389533 b: http://www.photo.net/photo/5617094 c: http://www.photo.net/photo/4689320 I think 'c' has a more natural feel to it, more drama due to the angle of the horse. 'a' is near perfect, how was the light done. 'b' is just a great shot, gives a lot of context and is much more something you can relate to. Debate... dbcooper
Horses: I rate them a,c,b. A for the unusual lighting and unusual 'horse'. Piques my interest to see a zebra...ain't many in my town. C for the power and action the dust suggests. B is dull, and the horse looks underexposed. Doesn't look like it's bucking at all. I see that one as a snapshot. Striped socks: b,a,c. B emphasized the colors and the shape - bright and vibrant, and the shadow adds edginess. A is good, but the stripes are too far away, and there are too many other distracting elements in the composition. C is dull...the colors and pattern in the socks look wrong to me to do the B&W/color thing, and the model's pose flatters neither her nor the socks. It looks like it can't make up it's mind whether to be artsy or playful. At least she should have pointed her feet. Just my $.02, but you asked...
