shooting a gig

I going to see Danny Kalb & the bar/restaurant said I can shoot

without flash. I was planning to shoot ASA 400 b&w. Years ago, I

would shoot hi speed Ektachrome with a 200mm f3.5 wide open at 1/125

sec in the spotlight & 1/60 when not in the spotlight & have it pushed

3 times. I plan on using a 50mm f 1.4 & a 135mm f2.8 or f3.5

depending if I bring a Minolta or my Pentax. If I'm close enough I

will only use the 50mm. I plan on the same 1/125 wide open. How

should I develop the film? I plan on using HC-110. The film will be

either Ilford HP5 Plus or Agfa Agfapan APX 400.

Don't know anything about Agfa, but dilution B would probably work best with HP5, to

give you a longer development time. The Massive Dev. Chart has suggested times.

Delta 400 would be a good choice, too. Its normal speed is 500 in DDX, and pushes to

800, 1200, and 1600 easily.

Good luck with the shoot.

Tristan, are you referring to pushing T-Max 400? I routinely push this film to 1600 and get excellent results (by push processing standards). The results are entirely comparable to Tri-X pushed to 1600. The difference is tonality. I choose the film to push based on the shooting circumstances - lighting, types of skin tones I want to preserve. I've even gotten acceptable results from TMY pushed to 3200 and 6400, altho' some artful dodging and burning are needed to get a balanced image.
