dave_mueller
I'm going to shoot a few rolls indoors this weekend, and might need some extra speed. I'll be using Tri-X because I have a lot on hand and this was a short-notice trip.
Has anyone tried Tri-X in Diafine? The Massive Dev. chart (and the Diafine box I think) recommend an EI of 1600 at the standard 3+3 times. I want to try the Diafine becuase of the EI, but am a little leary about wasting some shots without hearing of anyone's experiences.
As a side question, can you compare Tri-X at 1600 in XTOL versus Diafine? scott_walton1
IMHO you will not get that much speed. Diafine is beautiful! I use it alot for my 4x5 TXP but I rate it at 400. If you want the speed, get some 3200 Kodak, rate it at 1600 and process it in D76 1:1... that is beautiful. I have done ALOT of this and I think you will be more satisfied. john_fleetwood
Tri-X 135 in diafine EI 1600 is one of my favorites. Check out this picture (which was actually under-exposed - probably EI 3200):http://communities.msn.com/NewOrleansStreetPhotography/aroundnola.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=1Good luck - John. john_fleetwood
"Good luck - John" is not part of the address! If anybody has any tips on posting addresses as links, please let me know. Thanks - John.
gene crumpler
As a long time user of Diafine, I've found that the ratings on the developer box are pretty accurate. I've got several rolls of Tri-x professional 220 in my frig, that I plan to shoot soon and I plan to expose it at the recommended EI of 1000. FWIW. charlie_strack
John--
That photo ID (1) can't be found. Maybe the wrong ID?

david_parmet1
I'm interested in this question also - I often shoot indoors under far from the best lighting conditions. I've used Delta 3200 at 800 in HC110 dil B and I like the results.
I've been curious about pushing Tri-X with diafine. John - if your results are typical I'm just going to have to try it. john_fleetwood
David, I'll take that as a compliment. As you can see from the picture, diafine did a great job with a contrasty scene.
david_parmet1
John
It's a compliment. It looks like it was a sunny day and yet the highlights are just right. And technical mumbo jumbo aside - it's a nice picture. There's lots to look at and lots going on.
-david
